Toyota Yaris 1.4D4D - Head Cam Issues

Hi, could anyone please help. I took my car (Toyota Yaris 1.4 T spirit d4d 2003) to Toyota dealer and they told me that my head gasket needed replacing. I have bought all the parts but Toyota want at least £700 just for labour which is a bit too extensive. Does anybody know of any reputable Toyota engine specialists that can do the job? Preferably in the west mids area albeit I don't mind traveling further if necessary. As well as the gasket, cyclinder, head bolts, tensioner etc I've also bought a new water pump, thermostat, timing chain etc to be on the safe side. However, after buying all the parts people have been warning me about injectors getting stuck and the high chance of the head being cracked being a diesel, which means even more cost...is this true? I really appreciate/welcome your advice. Many thanks, Sam

Turbo Wastegate?

The engine is a 1AD-FTV, does it have a separate wastegate or is it part of the vane actuator? I've got an intermittent boost problem which sounds like a hole in the boost pipe but ive checked all the pipes and they are ok, i was thinking could a wastegate be sticking and causing this air leak sound? or the turbo not boosting enough?
Not about to pay crazy money, can someone tell me:

2: Can I obtain interface and use, say a Sony CD Changer?
3:Is the connection standad ISO?

I have a sony 6 disc and it would be ideal if I could just connect and fit under sweat.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hey...

Quick couple of questions for other IQ owners...

1. Would you consider a "pollen filter" and "cabin air filter" to be one and the same thing?

2. When you have had your 2nd year/full service did you get it changed?

All input is much appreciated.

Bhp Boost!

Hi guys!! I've got a '99 Toyota Corolla SR hatchback and was originally looking to do an engineswap for the silvertop engine which is also a 1.6 but puts out in the region of 160bhp, compared to my 109!!

I've got a k&n induction kit coming and a straight through stainless steel exhaust, I'm just wondering what other ways I can improve the bhp and torque? As after doing some sums I've realised I can't realistically afford an engine swap.

Links to recommendedparts would be appreciated.

Squeaking Rear Shock & Leaking Injectors?

Own a 2007 Toyota Avensis 2.2 Turbo Diesel D4-D T4. And here are my problems...

I don't know if this is just a thing that happens with these cars, or if it is a problem. But around the injector seals there is fuel that is leaking and it's going all over the engine bay. I really don't think this is meant to happen as every time that you drive it, there is more and more of it. I was told that it could be the seals that were broken or worn. And that there might have been a re-call for this problem. I don't know if there was, but did anyone else have this problem?

This problem has been getting worse and worse over the past few weeks. Whenever you go over small or be it large bumps in the road surface, the rear left hand side squeaks. But going over these bumps, and ride towards the rear does seem to be more free and "bouncy".

I was wondering if it could be the shock absorber that is worn, or possibly the anti-roll links. I was wondering what people were thinking it could be, and if the same problem has happened to you.

Thank you in advance,
Kate.

5Th Gear Rattle On 4.2!

Hi folks, after recently getting my blown Garrett turbo replaced (cost £1000 all-in) I now have a rattle and vibration when travelling (mostly up hill?) at about 65-70 mph in 5th gear? I have seen on 'Rav4world' (link below) that there is a kit to for the 4.1 to replace the 5th gear only and that it is reasonably easy to perform without having to replace the whole g/box?
I find myself touching the lever with my knee to stop the vibration! As soon as this problem arose I had the g/box oil replaced with correct fluid but the problem is still there? Is this a common problem with the 4.2 and is there an easy....ish fix?

TIA, Steve

Help For A Potential Buyer

Hi all,
i have been reading these forums for a fair while now, and I've noticed you are a dedicated bunch and you support each other with all matter of things.

i am very interested in the iQ, but i have some questions i'd like to ask as its quite a big commitment money wise and i would like to get my head around a few things first.

To give you an idea of myself. Im not too big into cars. i currently drive a 53 reg Corsa SXi which I've had from new. Im very happy with it, but i get bored easily with things, especially technology and the such, and i feel its time for a change of car.
Ultimately I'm a local driver, with the odd excursion on the motorway, so my first question would be how does the iQ feel on a motorway? I've read mixed reviews about it over the internet. How does it fair over long journeys, with/without passengers or luggage?

Im a big technology fan, so I'm more interested about whats going on inside the car and its options.
my big question is regarding the TNS510. I've found it tough to find any real detail about this option on the internet, so I'm looking out for honest opinions from people who have this installed.
1: most important for me, iPod. i currently have an aftermarket full connection Alpine iPod stereo in my car, with the cable wired into the glovebox so i leave it in at all times. i noticed the usb connection in the iQ is down by the gear stick. is the ONLY place it can be placed, or can it be modified somewhere else (for example so i have the iPod in the bag on the passenger side out of sight?)

If this is not the case with moving the USB connection for the iPod, then:

2: USB stick via the front of the TNS510. i saw on someones post on here a clever SMALL usb stick permanently connected this way. Now from my investigating I've read issues with capacity and a total number of songs regardless of size of the USB stick. is this still the case or have things changed since then?

3: control of iPod/usb stick. How does it operate for people. is it easy to navigate the iPod via the touch screen? do you get full artwork/songs details on the screen? is this the same for using a USB stick. Does the usb stick have to be filled in a particular manner? folders or just mp3s direct to the stick?

4: Nav system. Ive only ever used a TomTom, so how does this system compare? basically am i gonna get lost? (I'm in UK!!)

5: DAB option. does anyone have this? is it worth future proofing now?

If anyone has a video of their TNS510 in action i would love to see it. or if its at all possible for someone to make a brief video to email me that would be greatly appreciated. I've searched youtube but nothing really comes up.

are the rear sensors worth the option?

another thing that came to mind recently is I'm assuming theres not a spare tyre in the car? or am i missing something?

sorry for the long post, but I'm sure you can understand why i would like to ask the questions.
I look forward to your replies, and if i think of anything else i will add accordingly.

many thanks

Tyre Wear On Near Side

Just wondering if anyone is seeing tyre wear on the outer edge of the tyre on the front nearside?
The tread across the tyre is even its just the edge that seems to be wearing. I took the car to ATS to have the tracking tested and they say all is fine. They said this is normal due to the camber of the road and the stone etc that gather near the pavement etc. I have never seen this before on any car I have had previously. The rear tyre looks fine on the same side. Any ideas?

Hi there everyone

New to the forum and hoping you'll be able to help me out with your wisdom!

I've recently bought a GT4 Carlos Sainz which I've been wanting to do for around 20 years!Unfortunately, I need to get complete replacement fuel lines for it to pass the MOT and it looks as though Toyota don't make them anymore. I've tried a number of suppliers without any luck and wondered if anyone has had the same problem and managed to find any?

I would prefer to install new whilst I'm having the work carried out, and I would rather not have to have them specially made due to cost but I'm open to any suggestions.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

Im just after a little advice. I noticed a smell of diesel in the car earlier today so when i popped the bonnet and had a look i could see a puddle of diesel, having traced the wet patches i found where i think it was coming from, i can also see a drip when the engine is running... the problem is its too dark to take the cover off and im struggling to see by torch light. I just wondered if anyone can shed some light on what the leak is coming from and how costly or easy it will be to fix.
BMW costing £188 pounds a month in fuel only does 28 to the gallon and a mortgage to replace the rear tyres only do 14000 miles at a cost of £280n a piece to replace each time and servicing costing well in excess of £500 each year.
My wallet is now looking forward to a rest and a holiday in my pocket.
Will update on my feelings of my Urban Cruiser. currently I have not seen a U/C on the open roads around here it might start a trend.
