Well today it arrived, my seat Leon has now gone and we now have his and hers cars

my lovely shiney (cant believe it actually looks like new) 1.8 SR next to the wifes 1.4 D4D (she is a tad miffed)

Only had 10 miles drive in it and whilst I think it will take me some time to not having 260lb torque like my old diesel, the SR is certainly a lot more fun into the bends, and sounds a lot nicer at 6000 revs

It's a brochure from the Japanese lands. Has some cool body mods for our car and you can get them from any Toyota Dealer through their Japanese parts catalogue which they all have.

First drive to work today, love it, proper chuffed...different power delivery that I am used to, but less gear changes.

Trip comp reckons only 285 miles to empty after a full tank, is this acurate, it didnt seem to change that much weather I drove like a granny or nailed it....my old car seemed to work it out on the fly as I went along.

I know you guys said you where getting over 300 miles out of a tank....I got around 38mpg on the way to work on the average readout, but I would have expected more miles to empty if it was automatically changing the display.

Ahh that thing,

It basically counts down to when it starts flashing, so you can still squeeze more out then that. It's a rough guide and handy to go by though. If you, for example, use that to estimate when you're going to have to fill up, then you're never run outta fuel.

It also doesn't start counting down until you're using whats in the tank. If you filled up the filler pipe etc, it doesn't count it. Just assumes you're not running out I think

so 300miles per tank is more then feasible.

Well had my Yaris for 6 weeks or so now, loving it, very fun car to drive.

Perhaps to fun, not sure how some of you 1.8 owners are getting over 300 miles out of a tank, best I get is 240 till the light flashes and tells me I have between 10-15 miles left to 0.

I have got a heavy right foot though, and mixture of sat in traffic and then burning down the A roads.

Yarr! Remeber we achieved that at a steady cruising speed!

240 is about right for my heavy foot as well

That's good to know then

The fact that it's only about £40 to fill I am not that bothered about it doing 250, bought the car for fun;)

Hey Guys

Bit off topic. I have a 4 door 1.8 SR and it has a rattle from the rear bumper, or more accuratley it comes from the rear wheel arch inner. It would appear the plastic inner arch liner is not very well secured and two seperate sections rattle against each other, this noise transfers in to the car. Do any of you guys suffer from this?

If so have you done anything to cure it? I have a small piece of rubber tube inserted between the offending parts and this seems to do the trick but I don't think this is an ideal solution

I'm a fan of the 1.8sr. Great fun to drive. I had nearly 50mpg reading at a steady 70 (ish) mph which i was quite impressed at!

Yeah, I've got that too, only when closing the drivers door though, or the driver side passenger door I forget which. I'm going to ask Toyota to do something about it when it's next in for a service.

WE need a 1.8 RS VS 1.4 d4d review!!!!!!!

Well, its a funny thing you should say that. I rarely drive the wifes 1.4D. But when I did (when I had my previous Diesel), I always felt it was actually quite rapid.

I have now had the 1.8 for around 7 weeks (after 4 years of driving diesels). Today I took both cars to the hand carwash. So its the first drive of hers since having my SR. My thoughts, oh my god its sluggish in 1st & 2nd....of course it isnt actually, its just now I am used to driving using all the rev range.

However in 3rd/4th there is so so so much more torque in the 1.4 than mine, its just delivers the power so effortlessly up to 70. The 1.8 is a different beast, the roar/squeeling of the VVTI at 4-6k revs is simply lovely, and it gets there quicker I think, but the delivery of the diesel just feels quicker at say 40-70

Once at 70 though the diesel is actually quieter than the 1.8, due to 70-80 only being around 2.5k revs, the 1.8 at 80 is about 3.5k.

It really depends on what driving you do, the 1.8 plainly is a more rapid car though the entire rev range, its far nipper in town traffic, you dont really have to think about things, the diesel like all TDi's you really have to have the turbo running before you can boot it, for overtaking drop the 1.8 into 3rd and it will happily fly.

Not sure on the gearing on the Tdi, but to give an idea, the 1.8 SR is setup as follows (IIRC from the manual)

1st Gear - 31mph
2nd Gear - 56mph
3rd Gear - 86mph (awsome gearage here for overtaking caravans/lorries/tractors on A roads)
4th Gear - 106mph
5th Gear - to limiter

If you want to compare to a performance diesel, I previously had a 1.9 Tdi (150psi) Seat Leon FR and 3rd gear was 81mpg. I miss the torque of that car (263lbs), but having to always judge the turbo, was a nightmare.

Oh and this week I have done 200 miles, and the trip comp has now said I have 70 left, so I am 20mile up on what I have previously been averaging on the dash

the 1.4 D-4D is a pretty sweet engine for the car. I always enjoy driving it when given it as a temp car if mine is in for a service. So economical as well. Solid car and engine.

Just noticed the alloys as well, are 205/45/R17... which you can't get from TTE/TF1 overhere. Going to speak to my dealer about getting those....

My Japanese (reading) isnt' great, but I found that. If you click around using the pictures, you can pretty much find all the TRD/Modelita body kits for the Mark II. Obviously ignore the engine upgrades as the Mark II in Japan still uses the same engine from the original T-Sport 1.5ltr.

i have a 2009 d4d 6 speed great engine
