Hi All
I have fitted a tow bar to my 1999 rav4 3 door and need to know where to connect the electrical wiring for the trailer.
One reads all over about the toyota and/ or non geniune toyota wiring harnas which so easy just "plug in " into the electrical system of the car .
Now please tell me where is that so called 'plug in connector " situated .
If it is true that there is somewhere such a magic plug - in connector then it would be so much easier than tapping the rear lights and signals .
Thanks for your help .
Regards

Those ready made loom s are available online here so I think you will just have to search for one in your location or will post to you.

One of the towing guys will no doubt recommend some to you soon.

Hi John- and welcome to the forum. Toyota don't take the line of fitting a "magic connector" at a convienient point in the loom, it's a case of disconnecting existing connectors to, for example, the rear lights and then interposing a Male/Female connector with a branching cable that is part of the towbar loom. On the 4.3 RAV there is also a fused connection to the battery to make ( also part of the Toyota kit ). I don't know if there is a kit available from Toyota for the 1999 version of the RAV but if you PM our resident parts specialist, Parts King ( or Kingo to anyone who lurks around this forum ) he will probably be able to tell you if such a kit is listed. I fitted a wiring kit to my 4.3 and it was very straight forward. First time that I have ever used such a kit ( I can't count the number that I have wired by "splicing in" the towbar connections ) and I wouldn't do it any other way again from choice. Probably not exactly what you want to hear, but I hope it clarifies the position.

Hi John
I fitted very same thing to my 4.1 (1998) a couple of years ago... remove both internal rear side panels and the male/female connector blocks for the rear light clusters are jut behind the rear lights (not accesable by removing the light clusters alone as they are in a seperate box section). You then need to thread the towbar harness down the inside of each box section to exit via two grommets under the rear skirt panel; you can see these near the two fixing bolts each side for the towbar!

Hope this helps... they are easy to fit. :)

Hi
Thanks to all of you that replied so quick . Yes I am sure I will be able to wire that hitch . Have tapped off the exissting back light wiring a few times before on other cars , but just thought that there might be an "easy way" ( wishful thinking )
thanks again
John
