Full Version: Corolla Engine Miss & Cv Joint Problems?

I am new here and am in search of some ideas and help on what could be going on with my 1989 Toyota Corolla sedan.

4 months ago my car's engine started to "miss" while out on the highway. It was a long trip and it was on the journey home. It wasn't very consistant - ie didn't happen every x Miles or x minutes. I thought maybe it was dirty fuel from an el cheapo gas station that I stopped at.

Upon getting home, we replaced the fuel filter, plugs, rotor & cap. It was better for a while but now it's back. It seems to happen the most while accelerating while going uphill. Some misses are strong and cause the car to *****. Others are barely noticeable.

Am I looking at carburator trouble? What else could it be?

Also over the winter I've noticed a clicking sound from the front whenever I make a right or left turn. More prominant in the mornings. The clicks are more as the speed increases. Is this a sign that the cv joints need to be replaced?

Thanks for all your help :)

hey, yeah your CV needs to be replaced, well done on that. regarding your missing, if replacing those items fixed it for a while it would seem that one or two items are becoming fouled. the filter could be from that dodgy fuel or the plugs from oil in the combustion chamber causing your plugs to not fire. check your plugs and if they are pretty clean then i would be lookin sideways at the fuel tank which may have some contaminants in it.
