I have a Corolla Tspirit and occasionally the head lights go dim for a second or two. Some other people have had this problem on the forum with Tsports. Well guess what? Toyota GB phoned me today and confirmed the problem saying it was also an issue with the new Celica. A fix is under way and the parts will be available to fit by the dealer in a few weeks. They will contact me later. Just thought I would also inform you that I am having a new set of alloys fitted tomorrow due to poor finish, the dealer has not seen this on a new Corolla before but it is a problem on a lot of new Lexus cars. The salt then gets under the paint and corrodes the wheel.:)

Could you tell me what the fix was for Corolla, as ive just noticed my Celica 190 has started dimming its lights momentarily, also its dash display , and causing slight interuption to the radio

Ive just had my ECU changed at at your old haunt, West Riding Toyota silsden. Excellent service and very helpfull, I had a third party warranty that maxe'd at £500
so after a bit of haggeling it cost me £70. Ive just got the problem now of convincing the warranty to pay up for a cleanly sheered lift bolt

That's worrying - how old is your Celica 190?

How did you find that the lift bolt had sheared? Any reason for it?

lift bolts eventually break on almost all Celica 190 or tsport. the pressure and wear cause the tip of the bolt to sheer. Broken lift bolts cause loss of lift at 6000 rpm. You can also take the cam cover off the engine and inspect the lift bolts asa below

Sorry forgot to say my celica is just over 3years old but the lift bolt has been broken for some time. Just i never got round to checking them cos all seemed ok.
I'd say to be on the safe side replace your lift bolts every 2 years. its simple enough even Mr T could not charge to much, but its well within the range of the DIY'er. If it comes to the worst then the following procedure applies

Thanks Shepp - worrying, but at least I know what to look out for. To be honest, I think I'll get Mr T. to do it when required........all looks far too complicated for little ole me!!

I seem to have this problem with my Norwegian 02 TSport. Mr. T says that they cannot find anything wrong and no reports have been registered in their system. I suspect that Toyota Norway and Toyota UK do not exchange this kind of information. I did present them with a TSB from Sweden describing the problem and the ECU replacement fix. But they claimed that ECU differs from country to country. Also they couldn't find any information indicating that a new ECU is available (i.e., the ECU part nr. hadn't been changed, they claimed).

So, do anyone have some more spesific information that I can present to the local Toyota dealer? Looking for a TSB, repair invoice or anything that might help.

Also, I'm looking for the part nr. for the old and the new ECU.
