I have just spoken to my local dealer about a service plan for my 04 reg XT4. They have quoted me a total cost (for the plan) of about £650 over the next two years which would cover all my service costs for the next three services. That would be my 40, 50 and 60k services so two full and one minor service over the next three years or so.

Does this seem like good value? I think it probably is considering my iridium spark plugs will need replacing at the 60K service....

If you are anything like mechanically minded, do it yourself. If you are not phone around including reputable local non franchised dealers. Toyota will still underwrite any remaining warranty as long as it is done in line with the service schedule (as stated in your service book).

For £650 I would want diamond spark plugs. You will probably need a timing belt as well but did you check if it is included in the price?

Good Luck

If a timing belt change is included I would have thought that £650 is not a bad price to pay?

If you have a petrol model it is a timing chain change at 100K - only diesel needs belt changing at 60K. Service plans aren't bad prices actually but be aware that some items are not automatically covered - you will be charged if they inspect them and recommend replacement. also you'll find that garages tends to recommend other parts being replaced like brakes, discs, shockers and main dealer rates for these tend to be high.

Thanks for the feedback every one.

My next three services are the 40, 50 and 60k services. The 50k being a minor service is about £120 at my dealer. I've just called them and the major for 40k is about £185. I can't see the 40k being £350 (even with the spark plug replacement) so in this case I'd say the service plan is not good value - especially as the car is less than three years old and I don't expect any problems with it.

Looks like I'll be sticking to the credit card for now :)
