hi all,
just joined after having an mr2 roadster. just wondered if its poss get any decent music system in a roadster?? had a sub, amp etc in my last car but having to sell that cos obviously it wouldn't go in.

If you don't need the storage space behind the seats it can be done without any problems....

I have to 10" Kenwood subs powered by 2 Alpine amps which are down in behind the subs on the bottom of the bins. There is a Facia adapter you can buy to convert from double to single din and also an ISO lead to save you splicing into the harness. Component speakers have also been fitted into my doors.

I like the look of that!!

Can you post a pic of your head unit if you have one please? I'm not well up on this stuff and not sure what you mean about double and single dins?

DIN is the size of a standard headunit.. the standard size of the headunit in the roadster is Double DIN (so twicw the size), when you remove the standard toyota unit, you first have to fit a facia adaptor so you can fit a single DIN unit in, the other space beccomes a coin slot/ storage compartment.

Thanks for taking the time to post those pics!

I think i need to get one of those adaptors for starters!

Any ideas how I would go about modifying my Roadster to remove the cup holder and fit the extra DIN space? Can the housing be bought as a part from somewhere?

Not quite sure what you mean, but... in the picture above the cup holder and ashstray have been removed, this is done in the same way as removing the standard radio, all that has been fitted is 2 facia adapters as per the above link.

This is a top notch install, well done, looks the business. Do you know any other venders that sell the adapter as i'm a bit reluctant to put my credit card details in that website seen as they don't have the fascia adapter just the ISO adapter. Otherwise it looks like i'm off to order it through hellfords!! Bet those subs give you a nice massage after a hard day?? Good work.

Yea i did the same thing with my 2001 mr2 i took all the back storage out and managed to squeeze 2 12" subies in and between them a 1 farad capacitor i put the 2 amps behind the seats (had to find some thin mono amps though but when u source them its sweet i only loose one notch back on the seat rails so no biggy and the deck i put in was a double din touch screen dvd player and it looks the goods if u dont need the space its an awesome upgrade and when people here the bass they have that look of "where is that coming from" lol will post some fotos when ive reinstalld it

Finally, whilst I'm in the process of getting rid of my car i'm gonna post my install photos, let me know what your reckon:

does anyone know how or where i could het a box to fit a 12" sub in the back of my roadster

the sub enclosure pictured above is not sealed but I've since built a new one that is sealed, and in order to get a half decent box you need to spend a fair whack of time measuring angles to squeeze it under the hood and keep it in line with the transmission tunnel. That leads to problems finding a sub with a shallow magnet because as i've just found out, my vibe unit, pictured above won't fit in well.

anybody know where the best place to go through the firewall is for getting power to the amp for the subwoofer install.

i'm about to do one monday or tuesday and would appreciate the heads-up. pictures would be better but beggars can't be choosers.
