Hi All,

I have seen many posts on this forum regarding the 58812 head unit and ipod connection. Its seems that people have different issues with connecting. I would really appreciate any help.

I bought a gatway 100 from http://www.ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk/. Before I bought it, I called them to confirm it would be compatible for my head unit on 2005 Rav 4. They said it would be. When I went to fit it, firstly, i had no spare slots on the back of my unit but even when I unplugged any slot, the gateway 100 would not fit. The plugs on the gateway100 do not fit anything on the back on the head unit. I have read that there is a 'Y@ cable that I might need, which is fine, but my problem is I dont think the dension has the right connections. Facing my unit from the front, my cd changer pluger is on the top right. The is a plug in here which leads back into the dash to two spare connectors which I am sure are for a CD changer unit. Again, the dension does not fit any of these.

I have opened a ticket with ipodcardirect, but have been waiting for 3 days for a response. I called there sales line an they said I would have to wait to hear from them

So here I set with a £100 gadget that I am unable to use.

Apologies if this topic has been flogged to death, but I really have spent many hours on this forum and have managed to get a lot of usefull info, but unfortunalty, none that helps me.

Any help or direction much appreciated.

Thanks
Hoovie
Hi - Welcome to the Forum.

Interesting issue - I bought my iPod adapter from the same company as you a couple of years ago. I did find that that company needs prodding and nagging a bit to sort things out - not ideal, but you will get there in the end with them. Send another note to them saying that you are putting them on notice that you wish to return the goods under the Distance Selling Regulations. That will get them to look at things quicker.

I got the Dension Ice>Link Plus and I see that there is a note that "*The Dension Ice>Link has now been updated to the Gateway 100*" on their website. The Ice>Link Plus worked by plugging into the CD-Changer with a 12 pin connector arranged 5 Pins + 7 Pins - your Gateway 100 adapter does not have that connector? can you post a picture?

Here is some info about the Ice Link Plus from 2006 - I don't know how much it varies from the Dension Gateway 100. It would be useful to get that feedback comparing the Gateway 100 with the pics I am posting.

1 - The Head Unit in question - this is the 58812 as mentioned

2 - This has the 5+7 CD-Changer connected, which is most important to select when buying the correct adapter

The Cd-Changer socket is the one bottom-right on the picture

3 - This is the Ice>Link Plus

One end has a connector that goes to the iPod Cradle, the other end goes to the 58812 Head Unit (HU)

4 - 'Loom' from Ice>Link Plus to 58812 HU

Now this is where I am going by memory a little.... I think the CD-Changer has a conenction into it already with just two wires. the ice>Link Plus has a male plug and female socket and IIRC, you unplug the OEM connector from the CD-Changer, plug that into the socket on the ice>Link Plus Loom and then plug the ice>Link Plus Male Plug into the 58812 HU.
If you unplug the existing CD-Changer cable and are unable to connect it in again, then you are unable to control the HU fully (Like I said, going by memory and I also tried another make of iPod intergration which I could possibly be confusing some details with)

5 - First time using, you get a display on iPod along these lines:

I hope this helps a bit - please post a note how the gateway 100 compares to the bits I have posted. I would be most interested and other members may find that very useful as well

Just read this bit again - the top right plug is for the Sat Nav unit input I am sure, so that explains why that does not fit ;) - that is promising. Lets hope the post above sorts it out for you :)

Thanks for the pics. I see my problem. The gateway 100 that I have does not have that connector. It has the smaller connectors. Although, the cd changer plug that is in that slot now leads to two free plugs in the dash. They are covered with foam. I did try connecting the them, but it didnt work. I will get on to the palce I bought it from and get them to send me the right connector.

I will post pics of my gateway tonight so others can see what it looks like. Once I have it working, I will post my step by step instructions.

Thanks for all your help

There is another version of the Toyota HU which has a 12 way CD-Connector that is arranged in a 6+6 fashion rather then the 5+7. Pin-Size wise, that one is very similar to the top-right connector you mentioned, rather then the 'chunkier' pins on the CD-Changer on our 58812 units, so I can see how you could be drawn to wrong socket.

Looks like they sent you the wrong-one. maybe email them and send them the pic of the back of the unit I posted and tell them to double-check the replacement!

Good luck with it :)
