I have noticed that a lot of people on here have 'other' lives.

In some people's signatures I also noticed (I'm a bit like that) they have other cars not of this illustrious Marque.

I have mentioned in passing that I am a bit of an aircooled volkswagen obsessive, I have a few - this being two of them

the camper (a 1971 'bay' window) being a project and the beetle (a 1963 ragtop with a 2ltr lump in it) being my baby, I also have a 1963 'split window' camper.

I also breed Brirish Warmblood competition horses - albeit at a distance, as they are at my Mum's place in Northumberland.

So, my question is this - what are your other vehicles/hobbies obsessions? Keep it clean please!

I hope this is ok? Mods; if this is posted in the wrong bit I apologise, but I don't really traverse the forum - besides, the way this lot all go off topic I should just have started it with a Rav question and hooked this on the end! :P

That Beetle looks in fantastic condition  - has it had a full back to metal restore??

I am very tempted to get a T3 Camper :)

Other Hobbies? I am into DIY (don't trust other people to work on my house  ) and do all my own electrics, plumbing, decorating, etc and am a Mod on the UKs leading DIY Forum - whose name I cannot post due to the TOC forums very annoying auto spelling correction changing "t e h" to "t h e"
Karma Supra
But think of all the millions of times its corrected (my) bad typing :D

I do want another project car though... either (another) Mkiii Supra (V8, stripped out, midnight purple)

Or some form of Hot rod, also V8 based and very Low Tech :) Always loved beatles too, I like the really quck rat look ones you see at the Pod :) - but here are loads of great ones I see locally as I am a few miles from the Henley Beatle Centre. Our window cleaner has a '57 one that he did the Paris to Peking in.

Luv the Beetle, my wife would love one but dont have the time or space to have one, she will have to stick with her trusty moped !!!.
We are big on mountain biking in this household, every weekend out out on the bikes and in most weathers !!!!

my guilty pleasures are mainly pc related, I sell webhosting and create websites for people other than that its my photography that drags my away from the pC

Thanks for your kind comments about my bug - it's a 1963 jobbie.

Hoovie - I have just put new floor pan and heater channels in it and I have done all of the welding myself and very neat it is too (if I say so myself) No pigeon poop welds here! ;) DIY is a good thing - shame you live so far away or I would have been bartering with Mrs Hoovie!

Karma - I do run it down the strip at Santa Pod, on a good day it runs around 12's and 13's over the quarter mile. My split is rat look, that's why I didn't post a pic on here, thought it might offend as you all bow to the god of shiney things :D - it is solid underneath tho (also there's no photos on this computer). It also has a big lump and does the 1/4 at around 18 seconds. Did your window cleaner do it with his Dad? I think he might be on my internet forum. :)

Offroadster - Him Indoors is a road cyclist, he also has smountain bikes. Me, I think I'm built for comfort! :P

Great pics there Remoh. I particularly like the trees and sunset/rise stuff. I'd love to be arty, but I always end up a nanosecond too early or late, or have a plant growing out of someone's ear. my little camera is decent too - a TZ3; but in my numpty fingers it may as well be a packet of crayons and the back of a cereal packet!
Karma Supra
Thats quality, your bug probably runs the quarter quicker then my M3 ;) Love it!

Yup he did it with his dad, he is also a really talented artist and has been doing paintings of the cars that attended.... really really sound bloke. I've not actually seen him for ages as he usually comes when I am at work!

:offtopic: as expected
Your Beetle is in lovely condition- Congrats :toast:
I notice that on both your Beetle & Camper you have only got the Tax discs on the windscreens
Over here (Ireland) we have to display 3.
(1) Tax
(2) Insurance
(3) Nct (=MOT)
hertsnminds
Over here you can't buy 1) unless you show proof of 2) and 3) at the time of purchase. Now you can buy your tax online the computers just check each others databases. Of course you can still buy 12 months tax with less than 12 months MOT or insurance.

Other hobbies /Cars:

Used to be that way here, too. Now the tax Office aren't bothered, I believe because they reckon it is up to me to have them & none of their business. The Police on foot patrol will get you :fear:
Besides, they are trying to encourage people to do their tax on line , so it simplifies matters

I have actually seen a cheap beetle on Ebay that would make a cracking resto project...

I really canlt afford another money pit though! I swore myself away from cars I'd spend money on!
Dunky
Hi, I haven't posted much on the forum, but that's a cracking looking Bug, interesting wheels.
Red diesel
Love the sound of that beetle

However hope i don't come across as a killjoy - however would it not be better to have something thats real nice to drive on the road. I should point of course that i come from a place not exactly overflowing with decent race tracks - but does have lots of lovely country roads. Id find it hard to justify having a track or drag car - youd only drive on the days your on the track or drag strip - wheras with a nice road car - you could drive (within reason) it any time you wish.

But if you like it then go for it - i would not be averse to a trip up Brunters myself in the right car - but my basic point is that its easier to justify having a real nice car for the road rather then something thats set up for track and drag use

If you roll all your eggs into one basket it looses some of it's "special" apeal.

Technically the car I have now is far superior than anything I have had before it, and by a big margin. It pretty much ticks every box, is blisteringly fast around the Nurburgring, refined on my daily commute, has sensible space, seats and boot, etc etc.. but as I drive it every day it doesn't feel "special".
