Has anyone noticed recently that loads of junk is getting through the filters?
Normally my email gets no junk mail - they all get delivered to the junk folder , but just recently i have had about 6 junk/porn emails per day! They are so annoying and quite frankly disgusting, i dont open them but the title of the mail usually says it all!
Anybody else noticed this? Or do you reckon someone has been using my email address?

It may be an idea to change your e-mail address and let the current one "die"

Thing is i dont really want to change my address , ive never had problems with it before and i use it for far too many things so to change it would be a big headache for me, surely theres got to be a less drastic solution?
I've got 2 e-mail accounts
one with my ISP (Virgin) and also got a Live.com account
No spam in Live.com but the Virgin account 20+ a day.

I have a Hotmail account and I don't really suffer there but like WWD I have a Virgin account and the spam has been worse this past week with as many as 15 in one day 
Its annoying but I doubt there is much we can do about it

I noticed this about 4 years ago which is why I got rid of my Hotmail address full stop! Hotmail is worst affected as it's the most popular webmail service....
Any email address is susceptible to spam, especially if it's easy to make up.... basically spambots go through creating certain addresses, like johnsmith@hotmail.com, janebrown@hotmail.com etc etc to get a match. They also scan forums such as this to find email addresses, so any email can suffer from it sadly. Filters can only delete spam it's aware of, so if you're getting loads, report it via a spam filter and it'll pick it up next time.
I now use a GMail address plus my domain address. My domain address is the main one and yes, gets a fair amount of spam because its "out and about" but the GMail gets hardly any and the spam filters are very good.
I would recommend picking up your mail via Outlook using POP3 with an additional spam filter installed. Outlook in itself is fairly good but you can programme the spam filter to pick up all the rest and hopefully you'll be spam free Teegs!

Like i say usually i dont get any junk at all in my inbox - its just happened suddenly :S

I agree with Em I am using Gmail, now, more & more with virtually no spam. My problem is that Oceanfree is my home page & I have a mail box there which has about 30-40spams per day. This is down from 100+ after I installed Adaware & AV free. I also have Spyware Doctor & run scans every night before shutting down. I can cope with that.
The thing I cannot cope with, or get rid of, is the fact that I receive 5-6 spams per day from my own address, advertising Virility cures. I also get non delivery replies connected with this. The thing that really worries me about this , is if it moves on from "Pills" to something like Kiddie Porn.
I don't really want to close that mailbox, as a lot of my subscription renewals etc go to it.
Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

i am hotmail. never had any problems, all my spam goes to my junk folder and empty folder without reading it!!

As an aside, last time I was with her she was drinking her coffee out of a mug marked in large lettering "Cialis"! I said that I hadn't realised that you could get it in liquid form
. She said "OH no, I'm promoting it ". to which I said " You can promote some of it my way "

Have you signed up to facebook with the account recently? That leads to all kinds of crap being sent. Put yourself down as "single" & you get loads of emails from dating websites etc, it just uses info on your profile to choose what you might be interested in.
I've had my hotmail account since I 1st started using the internet & didn't used to get much spam but I've gone a bit lax over the years & used it to sign up to sites I'd have used other email addresses for in the past. I haven't noticed more getting through though, the filter keeps pretty much all of them out of my inbox

Gmail is the best spam filter ever I reckon - I've had my email address for about 10 years and there are 9000+ messages in the spam folder which is supposed to get cleared out every 30 days.
For every million spam messages that gets sent some mug will buy the pills or whatever they are selling - email costs nothing to send (most of the spammers use other peoples bandwidth to send anyway) so its win-win for them.
