hi all

for ages now i have been considering changing my rav4 52 reg d4d,for an older land cruiser colorado,3.0td 3dr.

are there any real nasties i should look out for,or has anybody here had 'severe' experiences with theirs,or will one go on forever just like my rav has...so far.

also where can i find 'high milers' info re: these vehicles,as would like to know what sort of mileage the vehicle is capable of as i see plenty of old 'r' and 's' reg's around and would love to know what mileage they have covered.

will they do 150'000 miles happily, and what needs looking out for to replace ,when its heading for that sort of mileage

any thoughts would be appreaciated...thanks

lastly does anybody know of a colorado 3.0td for sale preferbly 3 door, silver or darker colour ,possibly straight swap for my rav at a dealership or garage ,hopefully in or near essex, england (reckon rav is worth £6000..ish)

I think you will find that there are a lot of high mileage Landcruisers around - but the cars may have had repair work done to them - for example on the pre D4D 3.0 tds - there were appearently issues with some of them to do with head gaskets. The other thing is that they are very popular as working vehicles - so check the previous owner history carefully. Personally id rather a 150 000 mile one that a company used on road the whole time for say promotions (they make a great vehicle to advertise your company) then a privately owned one with 100 000 miles (for example) where the owner was a farmer or a builder - where the owner used it for work - such vehicles are often abused.

Check for signs of off road use and find one with a decent service history (Toyota would be nice - but at this age a good specialist is as good as anything). If its immaculate and not being abused im sure you will be fine

hi red diesel

thanks for your reply, good ideas you have, and my concerns re reliability seem a little short sighted.i see these vehicles all over the place, old s reg's through to 52' reg's,but i never seem to be able to chat to owners about them.

i guess they are pretty bomb proof,so purchasing one for allround use, daily driving, green laneing, off roading, sounds like a good investment, the current 'lc' series looks too nice and also looks lower (less ground clearance) than colorado.

anyway have to keep an eye out for one ,hopefully in south east england somewhere.

attached is a photo of a colorado i owned about 5 years ago,but it broke down.....badly
which is why i chopped it in for my rav4..which i still own...with no problems
