Hya Guys and Girls,
Recently bought a red MR S. The previous seller cared for the car as i bought it in a pristine condition. I have a number of newbie type questions i hope maybe i could get answered. My knowledge of engine management is quite poor so if i ask something that makes no sense don't be afraid to point it out as I'm here to learn. So i'll fire away;
1. The car has never had a service since imported in 2002. Would you recommend a Toyota service or will a smaller garage be ok?
2. I've found a small deposit of water in my N/S storage compartment. What tools do i need to use to access the guttering system to clean out the clog of muck?
3. What size diameter component speakers will i need to buy when replacing the standard factory fitted? Are there any you can recommend that are on a budget level? if so, please link.
4. Is there a sub plus enclosure that will fit into the storage compartment without using all the room, something perhaps that only takes up one half of the space? If so, please link.
5. What is the best product to treat my vinyl hood? Its brand new and quite stiff.
6. Would you recommend a full induction kit or high quality filter panel to gain extra bhp?
7. How much would a first stage turbo conversion cost? and what bhp would it add?
8. Can throttle bodies be fitted to the VVTi engine? if so what is the average cost and bhp?
9. What is the cost of an ECU remap or chip? and finally how much bhp will this add?
Thank you before hand, much appreciated.

1. The car has never had a service since imported in 2002. Would you recommend a Toyota service or will a smaller garage be ok? Any competant garage can do it, just follow the service schedule.

2. I've found a small deposit of water in my N/S storage compartment. What tools do i need to use to access the guttering system to clean out the clog of muck? What you need to know is here.

3. What size diameter component speakers will i need to buy when replacing the standard factory fitted? Are there any you can recommend that are on a budget level? if so, please link. I don't know the size, but I have fitted Alpine components... sound qualiy is good.

4. Is there a sub plus enclosure that will fit into the storage compartment without using all the room, something perhaps that only takes up one half of the space? If so, please link. NO pre-made shop bought enclosures are available as far as I know, most people go custom, I have....

5. What is the best product to treat my vinyl hood? Its brand new and quite stiff. I use North West Valeting Rubber and Vinyl Dressing... Google or Ebay... can also be used on the dash and door cards etc.

6. Would you recommend a full induction kit or high quality filter panel to gain extra bhp? You won't get much BHP gains from either, but on a performance level go for a quality panel filter with a Markiii inlet pipe (try mr2roc or ebay for the pipe) for sound then go for an induction kit... but they can suffer from heat soak.
7. How much would a first stage turbo conversion cost? and what bhp would it add? A simple bolt on turbo kit can be bought for around £2700 including fitting, but this won't include an ECU or mapping, it won't include intercooler or dump valve etc etc etc.. I have the Power Enterprise kit (and more) which I got from Prolex UK
8. Can throttle bodies be fitted to the VVTi engine? if so what is the average cost and bhp? The engine already has a Throttle bosy, howver it can be modified (smoothed out I think)... but what the gains are I have no Idea, I don't think it has really been tested in that way.
9. What is the cost of an ECU remap or chip? and finally how much bhp will this add? Typical chip tuning such as a Unichip will cost around £500 fitted and mapped, the gains are dificult to tell, what the Unichip does is get the best from the engine, if the standard ECU is already getting that.. then the gains will be zero... but you can realistically expect between 10 to 18 BHP gain and a little extra mid range torque.
Thank you before hand, much appreciated.

Thanks for the reply. Just wondering which alpine components have you installed? Plus where can i buy a sub enclosure as pictured above?

For the component speakers I just got the dealer to fit them.. no idea what they are sorry... the "enclosure" is just a piece of MDF cut to shape which is replacing the cubby hole doors, all the interior plastis are still in place and I have a couple of amps hidden in behind. Being 41 years old I don't really listen to Thump Thump music, but I can turn the volume up with very little in the way of rattles.

I dont really want to gain the 'thump thump' music i just want to be able to listen to music without the crackly noise that i get with the standard speakers. I assume this can be corrected by installing components?
That turbo kit looks a good deal but do you know any other kits that are cheaper?
Thanks
