im sure this has most likely been covered manys a time. i did a search but it didnt tell me what i wanted to know

i found some engine oil in our garage and i just thought id ask what does everyone use. ive got 1.0 fl yaris. the two bottles of oil i have are 10w-40 (one Castrol but it looks a few years old and the 2nd one is Shell helix plus synthetic oil). i know at the minute, there is synthetic oil in my car. and i also got my oil changed last sevice around 6k miles ago in feb.

my question is, what oil do you use in your yaris, and how often do you change it?

Dont mix different oils. It is recommended it is changed every year or 10,000 miles whatever comes first. Toyota owners book recommends 5w30 semi-synthetic.

I use 5w30 fully synthetic but you can use 10w40. I change it every year.

It is recommended to be changed every 10k or 12 months just as nickp8 says, but i change mine twice a year (every 3k) just when it starts to darken in colour. I know I don't need to change it that often but it's something i prefer to do. I use chevron's full synthetic 5w40 (it doesn't cost me a fortune as i purchase it from Costco which is an American cash & carry outfit)( £11 for 4Litres)
