Slight Vibration On Gas Pedal

Hello,

I recently bought a 2003 T25 Avensis 1.8 and I'm mainly quite pleased with it. Though...

When driving at 3500 rpm you can feel a slight vibration through the gas pedal. This doesn't bother me so much at urban speeds (since 3500 rpm is only a short phase when accelerating) but in the motorways it's a bit annoying, since the motorway speeds (~120-130kph) are usually just about at 3500 rpm when driving at 5th gear. Well any sorts of vibrations and shakings are of course a bit irritating especially when you could consider Avensis a quality vehicle bit better than average...

Already checked: tyre balancing (actually have a new set of tyres), motor mountings and exhaust pipe mountings at the local dealer. Also checked that throttle cable isn't touching anything that could transfer the vibrations and isn't sticky or anything.

I browsed through the forum and couldn't find anyone complaining about this same issue...neither have they faced a similar problem at the local Toyota dealer.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Sure sounds unusual, think if it was tyre probelms you would feel it though the seat, steering wheel or all the pedals .

As it seems rev releated three things come to mind, they are present on my 2000 Mk1 Avensis - possibly on your model as well -

Has the accelerator cable been changed, it needs the two bulkhead bolts removing by the pedal - are they both there and tight ?

The exhaust pipe has a damper weight on the pipe just before the cat, the bracket rusts away after a few years and the weight drops off, I didn't notice any vibratration when mine came off - but it could affect yours - they obviously fitted it for a reason.

The other is the vibration damper weight on the right hand drive shaft - if fitted - it may have moved or come off ?

Hello and thanks for replies!

Still haven't been able to resolve this though...

Could bad driveshaft joints cause something like this to happen? Or would vibrations and/or sounds then be much more noticeable than just a light buzz under your feet?

When driving at 130kph and feeling the buzz under your feet changing to neutral (pressing down the clutch) ends the vibration in gas pedal even though you keep the revs at 3500rpm... So, definitely not tire-related.

I have just, bought a Avensis GS VVT-i. I have noticed a simillar sensation yes in my case it feels like a buzz under your foot on the accelarator, I have not yet noticed if at a particular revs yet. It's new to me and at the moment I haven't noticed a pattern in occurence it seems intermittent. I've take it in to garage for a clutch replacement as this feels high and heavy.Don't know if this will work
