I've been looking at a sub 50k 2006 Avensis TS2 estate with a 2 litre D4D motor

Full Toyota Service History and is in great condition

Anything to watch out for on the 2 litre, as opposed to the later 2.2 diesels?

So.......................forgive me

This is the Toyota Owner's Club and the Avensis section...................52 views and no replies

I'll take it that nobody knows if this model of Avensis is good or bad? :(

I can't believe that nobody has any opinion or knowledge of this model

Does it suffer from the DMF Clutch failures that affected early 2 litre diesel Rav4's or is that only common to the Rav4 because of the 4WD

Must admit I have a 2005 T2 D4D Tourer with full Mr T service history 90,000 miles on the clock and cannot complain. No problems to report to date except for regassing AC. Good solid and economical car(40 mpg around town). Not quick off the mark, but once moving is quite nippy.

Looking at the service history there has never been any problems with the clutch or DM flywheel. Great 8 speaker sound system and very comfortable on long journeys.

Hope this helps

Hi mate the "late 2006" d4d has no cam belt to worry about and is a more powerful engine by around 20bhp. Mine is a 2007 2.2 d4d 150 saloon and at 40k miles no problems as yet. It is showing 53mpg today on the computer readout with mixed driving so no complaints there then. I would have liked to get the estate but couldn't find one at the right price at the time. All cars have problems of one sort or another but i think the Toyota is up there the most reliable ones today.

Regards Pete.

Thanks chaps, this is a May 2006 reg, with a 2 litre D4D engine, not the later 2006 2.2 D4D, so has a belt

Currently drive a company owned 2008 Honda 2.2 CDTi CRV 4WD diesel, so have been spoilt in the reliability stakes :D

But taking redundancy in Sept and need a cheaper car

I have a 2002 Hiace Van and it's been superb.....................so looking @ Toyota/Honda

The 2.0 diesel engine changed in the facelift, unrelated to the intro of the 2.2.

The facelift was around mid 2006 I think, so worth double-checking whether this is a facelift model or not. IIRC the main advantages of the facelift 2.0 diesel over the original are:

1. More power (approx 130 vs 115)

2. Chain cam rather than belt (belt change is pretty pricy from Mr T, and needs to be done at 60k I think)

3. Six speed rather than five

4. Lower emissions I think, but not sure if it affects tax.

5. Better economy (claimed)

6. MP3 stereo

All in all, I'd say the facelift is well worth seeking out if you're in the market for a 2006-2007 car. At the very least you should probably negotiate a few quid off to cover the impending belt change if it's a pre-facelift model.

Great car I have an 07 only problems have been new discs and pads at 10,000, new discs and pads on front at 20,000 and new discs all round again at 30,000. also new rear silencer at 30,000. Bit worried about the discs after next July when warranty runs out. Agents at Queensferry reckon its the pads that are at fault.

To JohnnyBoxer,

Have early MK2 D4D model & have had no major problems as such so far, touch wood. These cars are not plauged with DMF problems, injector problems & so on & so on as people would have you believe. Some people have these problems through pure bad luck. I use my car nearly every day for towing of some description or another & have had no problems. Like all cars check the service history.

Don't worry yourself about people not answering forum postings, you will find with future postings that you have some 10 or so odd people who reply to most postings if they can be of help. You may have noticed many postings with question asked & replied too, but no THANK YOU follow up.

You have a lot of one post wonders who are offered help on the site, but they never come back too thank you for help, or the big one, what caused the problem. Which is the general idea of a forum (talking shop) to help each other out.

Regards, Beagh.
