Hi

Help please, I have a 03 Rave4, 2 litre diesel. The power steering pump pully sqeaks away when cold, then disappears when warm, I assume its the bearing ?anyone done this job ? is it difficult ?

Thanks

I think you'll find it id the belt. To test it just pour some warm water on it and it will stop instantly then gradually come back as it dries out.

If that is the case it is unlikely that changing the belt will work for long although some are better than others - to my knowledge Gates belts are best.

Just ignore it!

Some PAS pumps are slightly offset towards the gearbox end.

Fix was to remove pump and bracket and add washers to bring pump back inline with other pulleys, this stops the belt squeal too ;)

Hi Anchorman

Toyota tell me they brought out a modified belt in 05 with slightly different angle in belt grooves, this stops the squeak when cold. Belts are about £30

Do you know how to change them ? looks very tight down that side.

You'll find it easier Mike with the vehicle up on ramps and with the RH engine side cover (under the wheel arch) off.

There is a spring loaded tensioner to release, then feed the belt off but either print the instruction or take a photo because trust me it is very easy to forget which way it goes around the pulley's. The info shows a special tool and you can buy them but you can also manage with conventional tools;
