Hi All,

My parents have a 3dr 4.1 Giant in black which they love and has been faultless for many years, now circumstances require an additional vehicle and they want another RAV. This time in 5dr form, with there budget being 4k max they can get a late 4.1 or an early 4.2. PETROL ONLY.

What is the general feeling about early 4.2's, with the emphasis on reliabilitly and niggly faults when compared with the 4.1's.

All their cars are driven into the ground.

All opinions welcome :)

Cheers CC

Hi CC

I think I would just have a look around and see what is available. It could perhaps be argued that the 4.2 is newer technology but if you can drop on a 4.1 that is in good nick it still makes a very nice car.

4.1 considerations;

60k cambelt

switchable 4WD

Rear axle mounts can cause clunking

4.2 considerations

No belt!

Permanent 4WD and the ones you are talking about have a limited slip rear diff.

oxygen sensors can play up (but may have been done).

Newer technology - better handling and ride posibilities.

Any chance of seeing some pics of another Giant, I didnt quite realise until recently how rare they are getting.

Seen some cracking 4 door 4.1 VX's lately for sale on web, full leather seats and extras.
