04 Avensis T3x D4-d Lossing Power At 60mph (100kmh)

Hello All,

I have just privately purchased a Avensis T3x D4-D first registered 01-01-2004 . So its really a 2003 model.

I choose this car over the VW Passat as I had owned a gen 6 celica for many years with no problems at all and thought the Toyota would be more reliable.

However, when driving the car in 4 and 5th gears there is sometimes a total loss of power and I'm unable to get the revs up. This is very annoying and worrying because I do a lot of motorway high speed trips and when I loose power the speed drastically reduces and I'm worried about becoming a danger to other road users.

To get round the issue I put the gearing into neutral and give a few high revs, this seems to solve it temporalily.

The car has 90,000 miles on it. It was last serviced at 83,000 miles. Timing belt was changed at 60,000 miles.

Can anyone please help me as it's becoming a worry for me. Does this sound like a serious issue or an easy fix. I'm not mechanically minded so I need to take the car to a mechanic.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi buddy...

doesnt sound like something is seriously long.

I would recommend you start by...

Service -

Oil Filter + Oil

Air Filter

Fuel Filter

Then look at

EGR - Can be cleaned

Turbo Charge Pipe Goes from the turbo to the airbox and at the front of the engine

MAF Sensor located on the airbox can be cleaned.

I would be intrested at looking at fuel filter and replacing it before you do anything else... , as if the pressure drops, you could loose serious ammount of power

But if you look at all of them you should have it all covered.

let me know how it goes :)

Hi cmia,

many thanks for the reply. I'm going to take your advice and get it serviced. I'll stick a fuel filter in first though ;)

I'll take before and after pics and upload them onto the forum, plan to get the work done Monday or Tues of next week.

Again thanks for taking the time to reply.

hello GUZ + welcome to the forum

check with your records whether fine fuel filter has been changed???????

start investigation from this one and be careful to have an air escaped from the injection circuit in right order.

Cheers/Igor
