Warning Light

I have an Avensis ’53 and for the past year or more am having trouble with my alarm. For the last maybe year plus I have had to lock my car using the key in the door and not the remote to put the alarm on.

The reason is that while I am driving the warning light ONLY ON OCCASIONS keeps flashing on and off to tell me a door is open. I stop to check and all is fine. When the car is parked and I use the remote on occasions the alarm has gone off because what ever is causing the light to flash on has come on. I have checked ALL door contacts and even the boot lock as best I can. I now have to turn the interior light off as that too come son while driving. My local Toyota garage when I have taken it in for a service said that they drove it and the warning light never came on. BUT it does. They say could be the boot lock and you need a new one. They are not sure though and they are expensive. Any ideas

My wife had a similar fault on her SEAT , the garage had to replace the central locking unit - luckily it was still under warranty. Same symptoms, random alarm going off and the interior lights coming on and off while driving.

Thanks for your reply....don't think it's as drastic as that ..one thing I will say I have had the boot filled to extremes wher it has been hard to shut the boot....this is why I say maybe it has moved the lock a bit...I don't know

If you suspect the boot switch to be the problem then how about disabling it. Figure out how it works and disconnect the cable.

disconnecting the cable wont work,

the circuit needs to be closed for the light to go out :P
