Brake Fluid/oil Choices

Hi All,

Car's due it's 60k service, (on 65400+) and was wondering if I need to change the brake fluid, it was done at it's 40k service. Is it dot3 or dot4 or another dot?!...also I was looking at two oils: Pro Power which I can get hold of for £10 or Castrol Edge Turbo Diesel which is £45...what do I get for 35 more?

I'm getting the timing belt done as well as the oil/air/fuel filter, do I need spark plugs or anything else doing? It's the first time I'm getting it done at a local garage as opposed to Toyota dealer...the cost is just too much. What do you reckon?

Thanks in advance.

hello mate

The DOT4 is subject to be changed each two/three years due to its hygroscopic property --- it is esential for cold regions.

Castrol Edge is not the best value for money oil, but it is good stuff. No need to spend £45 on it though, it's £35.09 with us (including your member discount)and we'll throw in an extra litre at the moment if you enter the code TOPUP when you order

From the info I can find, Pro Power is basic stuff. It will not last as long as the Edge and will not provide as good lubrication. A couple of companies charge a premium for the name, but even with that, you tend to get what you pay for with oil. Modern diesels often have the oil under high pressure and it will quickly break down unless it's good quality. The Edge meets BMW and VW longlife specifications and their engines are very hard on the oil, so it shows it's quality
