Just bought my first Avensis - a 05 D4D hatchback.

I assume it's 116bhp but I'm just wondering if the fact that the second "D" in D4D is red means anything?

Is it similar to the red "i" in Volkswagen TDi models? i.e. a bit extra oomph!

With search you would of found the answer for this question. Once a gain:

D4-D = Direct Four Stroke Diesel...

Search does not answer the question that was placed, why is the second "D" red.

The red 'D' is in memory of a red squirrel called 'Dylan' tragically killed in the the red pine forest near the town of Koromo when Sakichi Toyoda's nephew Eiji flattened it build Toyota city in the late 1930s

Is one theory.

Nex,

I seriously doubt your theory. Everyone knows that all the red squirrels in Koromo were wiped out in the "Great Red Squirrel Massacre of Koromo" in 1893. :P :P

The red "D" doesn't stand for anything... Greed "D" does mean economical, but it also tell's all the people that you are driving a D-CAT :D

...except one called Dylan who survived because an eagle taking him for lunch accidentally dropped him in pool of mud, camouflaging him as a brown squirrel.
