Connected Lighting Board To Avensis Flasher Unit Noisy

Hi and thanks for reading this.

We are going to tow a caravan home this weekend with our Avensis 52 plate

1.8 vvti.

I have connected a lighting board to the plug and thankfully all lights are

working but I notice when I put the indicators on there is a kind of buzzing

noise from the boot.

The indicators work fine but I wonder if I need a heavy duty flasher unit

or something ?

What do you guys think and if you can advise of part numbers if required

many thanks

The Buzzing noise you hear is in fact a buzzer! It's there to remind you when you turn that there is a trailer/caravan or whatever is stuck to the back of the car so you don't take that turn too sharp & hit that bollard, parked car, old age pensioner etc... ;)

Hello stirling.

All depends on how your system has been wired up. Cannot claim to be expert on caravan wiring, do you have a double or single towing plug system & was tow bar fitted by Toyota / yourself or previous owner?

I fit quite a few tow-bar systems all with single towing plug wiring, you may find that some one has wired in a 7 - way by-pass relay to protect your vehicles electrical systems at some stage in the past. These are some times fitted with audible buzzer's for reversing & turning. If this is the case with your car they can usually be de-activated by locating small hole in unit & inserting small screw driver into unit & turning screw whilst indicators are on to lower volume or turn - off completely.

Hope this is of some help to you. Re-post with more details of your set-up if you still have problems.

Regards, Beagh.

Thanks for replies, the car has a double electric towbar fitted by the previous owner. In fairness the indicators are working perfectly with a lighting board connected so it may be a buzzer as suggested I dont really have any auto electrical experience although I am in the motor trade I was just a wee bit worried that I was overloading a flasher unit

as it sounded like a dull buzz coming from the near side rear wheel arch area.

I really appreciate all people that have taken the time to reply.

By law you must have some form of indication that your trailer/caravan indicators are working, this is either an audible warning (as yours is) or a pilot lamp on the dashboard.

If the indicator on the trailer goes off, the buzzer/light does not work, hence warning you of a fault.
