03 Celica Engine Management Light - Furl Consumption

Hi..

My engine management light has just come on in my 03 celica, but I have also noticed it is also using an excessive amount of fuel (about twice as much as it does usually). The car seems to drive fine though and I haven't noticed anything unusual (except fuel consumption)

Are these two things linked (EM light and the fuel increase) and if so is there an easy way to check/fix this.

Any help would be appreciated as I have about 400 miles to drive this week and it's going to cost a fortune if it continues like it is.

Thanks in advance

mine came on today too! I have no idea why, my aux belt is slipping a bit, could it possibly be related to that? Im gonna get it replaced cos its driving me mad, reset the ecu and see what happens. If it comes on after that then i suppose its an expensive trip to toyota to see what the error code is.

You need to get the code read and take it from there, it could be a simple fix or you could be doing permanent damage to your engines if you continue to drive them.

If you haven't got an OBD2 code reader then perhaps there is another member nearby who can help you...

.. if not a garage will read the code for you for around £40 or you could buy a code reader from eBay for about the same £40. (check that it is compatible wit a Toyota)

As for an Idea on the problem....

..get the code read then post it here and we will be able to help a little further.

Clean the MAF sensor?

it went off the other day and hasnt come back on yet. My fuel consumption is quite good at the moment, got 440 miles off my last tank in my 140 so that aint a problem there! It likes to drink the oil so i presume my cat or exahust is knackered from all the oil passing threw it, passed my last MOT no problem on emissions though a few months ago, god knows how!
