Clutch Noise Fixed

Thanks to anchorman and hemi

that's what I like about this site, sound advice. So let me start by telling the story about the noisy clutch. It started with a slight vibration through the gears especially fith and pulling away. The noise got worse then went quiet for a couple of days then an almighty rattle appeared so I said that's it time to get my hands dirty for the fourth time in two weeks on the rav. I started yesterday in the morning. I managed to get the gearbox out with the transfer box connected. The subframe was taken out so the wishbones could also come off. I left the the drive shafts in place on the hubs plus I had to take off the propshaft with the exhaust down pipe. This is not in the order of which I done it in so don't think how I done one thing without doing the other first. Of course the airbox and Battery was disconnected. Finally I got to see the clutch, it looked really good with a few milimeters left before the rivots would be touching the flywheel. Yes it's !Removed! small and I for one was suprised at the size but most of all I looked at the flywheel and turned it anticlockwise. It had about 45 to 50 mil in travel. I managed to find the correct travel and it came apparent that it was knackered. I got a flywheel oe part for 409 quid plus vat and the clutch for 150 including vat. They all went in and fitted like a glove. It's all done but I have had no time to test drive it, I will let you all know tomorrow how it's gone. Hopefully that will be it for a really long time. As hemi said Toyota should have some responcibility because of the flywheel and egr and scv valves. Any way sorry to harp on, this is taking me ages because of writing it on my iPod.

Thanks again to all of you for your advice.

Hi hemi

believe me if I had known that bit of information I would of used the smf. The knowledge I have taken in by using this site has saved so much money and time. I have rebuilt many engines and cars over the years especially the classics like mk 1 and two escorts to vw beetles and so on. My favourite is alfa's, I know italian rubbish, atleast they have soul. I almost feel like buying another rav just to strip in down and catalogue the process so I can help the members on here. I kick myself now, I built another workshop for my business and at the time I thought of building a pit or having a lift installed. Having had to work on the rav on ramps it has given me more incentive to have a lift installed when I move house. I will let you know how it all goes today
