Thoughts On The Ft-86

As no one else has posted here... I thought I'd be the first!

I think it's a fantastic idea! With reports that it will be using a boxer engine, did trouble me a little... but I've been put at ease by the news that it's based on the boxer but is being rebuilt by Toyota, adding their VVTI and D-4S technology into it.. my confidence has been restore somewhat! With initial specs thought to be in the 180bhp-200bhp region; I'm pretty sure it's going to be my next car!

I've heard Scoobaru will be doing an STI (lol) Version with a nice turrrrbo on it... I must admit, I'd love to see a TRD/TTE/TF1 version with either a turbo or a charger! :D

I agree. It would have been nice to see the Toyota one with a charger or sumthing just to bump up the BHP. It looks amazing def next car bigger engine would just make it that bit sweeter. lol

I think I'll start saving my hard earned.

Sorry to disagree but I wouldn't go for a forced induction car, Toyota should stick with the original brief and focus on light weight and the chassis. Just like the original AE86 which I was lucky enough to have owned back in the day. That had T-VIS (Toyota Variable Induction System) which was their VVTi of the time (but not actually anything to do with valve timing). They should stick to high reving technically excellent N/A engines. The old AE86 had about 124bhp but weighed about 1000kg. It was pretty quick, and enough for the road.

Toyota also need to look at the price as I've heard £14K,£18K,£20K & £22K mentioned. I doubt it'll be anything like the former. This could just be the best car to come out of Toyota in the last 20 years.

Whatever it is I can't wait.

If Toyota had made something like this a couple of years ago, I'd probably still be a customer :)

I agree. I've popped back into this forum after reading the news on the concept as first impressions are favourable.

Waiting and watching for more news with interest.

I could ask you the same thing, I've not read any which state 146.

We're not talking about the standard 2.0ltr boxer engine here, which I think the 146 comes from.

Also note that most reviews online are copying each other if they do say that. So which ever is right, won't know until official specs are out.

I think that it's a fantastic car! It is absolutely stunning and has a stance to die for. I'd love to get one, because it would be good to get into the drifting scene.

I hope that this provides Toyota with a new and exciting image, as even the blokes at TopGear are in anticipation on this. It will be great to have this as the basis of their new series of cars, and I look forward to those too.

A good kick in the teeth for the Audi TT too! :naughty::Jumpy:

It'll definitely be on my list when my next car is due, I really love the idea of unzipping the dash to insert a CD

What's unbelievable, astonishingly and amazing though, is even the wife likes the look of it...
