Hi

Do you have the facelifted version which I think was introduced for the 2006 year cars? If yours does happen to be a pre-facelift machine then keep a close eye on oil consumption, this was a well known and well recorded problem with some of these engines after approx 40,000 miles. Plenty of info on this forum to read about this.

Headlights also gave problems (melting fittings), but Toyota are well aware and might be sympathetic to any cries of help, provided there is a full service history record preferably carried out by a franchised dealership. This applies to the oilburning issue too.

If you have the facelifted model then you won't/shouldn't have anything to worry about. Just try to keep to the service schedule.

Comiserations regarding the Rover. I once owned a Morris Marina. 'Nuff said!

Good luck.

It doesn't matter which version you've got, some people with the MKII Avensis also had trouble, just keep an eye on the oil at all times, a lot of 1.8 VVTi's burn oil, even some of the replacement engines Toyota fitted did.

Some 30 years ago, at work I had an English manager.

Very nice guy BTW.

His father had a large dealership somewhere in the UK, and this guy was practically born in that garage.

When he emigrated, his father sent him off with a big LHD Rover.

Can't remember the model though.

Every monday morning he sat with both hands below his desk, and I'll never forget his advice.

"Never, ever buy an English car".

Oh ooooh!

I just noticed that my new Avensis will be made in the UK....

Yes beware my friend.... English cars are not at all bad, some simply came with a bad reputation and that was generally misplaced. Most European cars of 30 years ago were no where near as good as they are now.... thankfully :D

As for your forthcoming Avensis, you will not be disappointed with it when it arrives. Mine is now 7 months old and it is superb

hi, thanks for your reply, im sorry if its a daft question but how do i know if it is a facelift version?

Easiest way I find externally is to look at the radiator grill - if the Toyota Badge is incorporated in the grill design i.e the chrome surround trim goes over the Badge then it's the pre-facelift model; if the chrome trim goes under the Badge then it's the facelift version.

Other minor differences too (wheels, repeater indicators in door mirrors, and more nice toys inside etc), but the above is probably easiest to spot.
