Spacia 3sfe To 3sgte Swap

Hey everyone,

OK, so I currently own a 1999 Toyota Spacia (Im in Australia), and mostly love it to bits. Its not the prettiest sight, and the engine has no guts at all, but it carries around my bike and has a heap of room. Its starting to get a few k's on it (It has 270,000 on it now), and it will be replaced in the next couple of years.

Id love to be able to use it as a project car when it gets replaced, because id imagine it doesnt have a lot of value to anyone with that many k's on it. I know what im doing with engine swaps, I just like to make a few posts in forums to make sure im not missing any info ;)

Ive been doing a fair bit of reading about the 3s series of engines. The car currently has a 3s-fe engine in it. Basically I want to see if its possible to stick a 3s-gte engine in it. And by the looks, noones ever done this in a spacia before. I would just a buy a half cut of a car with a 3rd gen gte engine in it (I cant remember the model off the top of my head, its a caldera or something like that  )

The questions I have are:

1. Since the engine is mounted longitudinally, and the half cuts that come with 3s-gte's have the engine mounted latitudinally, is this going to be an issue?

2. Are the gearbox mounts the same on the 3s series?

3. Will the auto gearbox handle the power? How can i find out the model of the gearbox currently in the car?

4. Ive read that the 3s series share the same block, and therefore the same engine mounts. Is that true?

Spacias appear to be quite popular in japan (Going under the name "Noah")... And there seems to be a lot of them with rather elaborate body kits attached to them, but I cant find anywhere to buy bits for them. I rekon this car would make a great sleeper, and with roughly the same weight as a celica, it should have a fair bit of go in it. Id also be putting a manual gearbox in it... Hopefully that could be sourced in japan.

Any info would be appreciated :)

blocks are pretty much the same in the 3S family (some internal differences) so yeah it will fit. however you may need a RWD sump for it and not sure on how the auto will cope. also if the auto is controlled from the ECU then that may cause wiring headaches.
