I have a similar problem on mine. If you look around at he Avensis forums somebody else also has the same problem. It's a 2.2 thing i guess. What is the SCV are they the things in the fuel pump? and the masf like irishjay said. The 1CD-FTV is the 2.0 diesel.

So come on what are "SCV contacts"? you might know but I dont, if its a secret I wont tell anyone else, Honest!

My Avensis wont start when warm either, it tries to start but only seems to fire on 1 cylinder, it also seems to be turning over with the starter as fast as my other Avensis. Any help will be great please. Fuel filter, glow plugs and relay have been checked and are ok. Do you still think it might be the starter?

STOP !!!

let\s start again -- in case it is started on one cyl only -- it means the pump has small quantity of fuel inside and tries to fire up -- ok there are two SCV valves installed on the high pressure fuel injection pump -- so they are normally CLOSED - it means when no power they are closed resulting no diesel is sucted into the pump. when power ON (by ignition key) your 12V feed each SCV solenoid resulting respective valve stem inside is lifted up enabling diesel to be sucted and pumped for injection. now the task is to disconect each solenoid feeding wire and measure ohmnedance of each wire coil to have values in limits as per manual -- in case they are out of limits -- it means each valve works and goes by own way other than you state by key. in this way these or one of them have to be changed due to burnt out.

Cheers/Igor
