Bumper Scratch

I've been reversing yesterday on some local area near airport and my parking sensors did not pick up a thin concrete pole standing behind me, of what the results were as below...

Can anyone help and advice what should I do now? Should I save some money by trying to touch it up with some paint or go straight to the dealer and ask for repair (which will cost me dearly I expect).

I am glad it's a bumper not metal work, but still am so angry with myself as I did exactly the same on my previous car. The difference was, it was 13yeras old and I did not give monkey's elbow what scratches does it have. But I do care about my 5months old "ladybug"... :crybaby:

The bumper's plastic, which means that any attempt to cover it up with paint, no matter how good the finish is, will probably be obvious to anyone having a look at the car properly. If you just want it covered so its not obvious to other drivers and pedestrians then a home paint job would suffice, but for anything other than that probably the dealer's the better option. Just my personal opinion though, good luck with the repairs! :)

I do not mind if the repair is quite visible if you will have a closer look. I do not plan to sell the car, will run it until it won't allow me anymore.

I just want to the gaps to be filled slightly (they're quite deep) so the surface is even and also that the paint matches and it lasts for long time.

If i was you i would take it to a few body shops and get some quotes.

I had a huge dent in a m/cycle fuel tank that needed filling and spraying, got the job done perfectly for only £80 and you could never tell.

That's what i would do anyway, i would avoid going through the insurance with it.

Try Smart ABC or ChipsAway - these guys are specialists in this sort of cosmetic repair and will do the job at your home or place of work. I have had a couple of scratch repairs done by them on various cars and they are fine and good value too.

Thanks for the links. I've asked them for an estimate cost of the repair.

My local dealer quoted me for £123.08 inc VAT.

A genuine touch up paint costs £7.50. I wonder if the repair is worth the big money at all.

The dealer quote is a fair price but they may actually be using a Smart Repairer or such like to do the work and then bumping profit on top.

My neighbour owns a red Merc 130 which suffered similar damage to yours. The local dealer quoted £250 but my neighbour discovered a local Smart repairer was contracted to do minor for the same company. In the end the Smart repairer came to his house and done an excellent repair for £75.:)

A touch up stick won't fix that, it will from a distance but not close up. As already mentioned a good smart repairer will come to you and sort it for less than the dealer has quoted.

smartautorepairs quoted me for £100 plus vat. So it is almost the same as Toyota. Let's wait for the other to call.

well while your waiting to get it fixed you could get some t cut and a lot of elbow power, and then polish over, it should even it out a good lot but still leave the scrape marks of course, i personally would have to get that fixed, it can happen so easily though, nufortunately i did this

and i had tryed to clean it up a bit at that stage but after a wee bit of diy

Holy SH*T!? £622? I've seen one for £60 not primed. I'd buy it and bring it to some local polish garage or so or even made it installed. It'd have been less than 622 but do not know the damage you had.

T-cut seems to be good for removing light scratches. My scratches are rather deep. The worst thing is, I do not want to respray them with some paint in cans. I am not good at it and I'll probably ruin the car more than it is. I rather just try to fill out the rills as much and as even as possible and then lightly touch it with the 3P0 paint that I'm currently awaiting. I do not care if it's visible from short distance, the damage is done and I can't afford £100 repair. I may one day buy new bumper, but due to the parking sensors I my have problems with additional holes. As well as the bumpers people sell are not in perfect condition, have light scratches or need spraying. And also I would have problems with removing the old one and fitting new one.

I have a local garage that promises half price of most garages' prices. Will pop by tomorrow.

That is the whole price labour, paint & a new cross member. It is going through insurance and as the car is less than three months old I am insisting it goes to Toyota.

How does that influence your NCB?
