2nd Gear Problem..yaris Tr2009

ive had my new yaris tr 1.0 for a few months and me and my wifes noticed that its hard to get it into 2nd gear .the problem seems to occur when its cold or raining .my wifes been trying to by pass 2nd gear alltogether now by going from 1st to 3rd gear as quickly as she can.

to me this doesnt seem right its a new car ive never had issues like this with any other car ive had.has anyone got the same problem?and did you contact your dealership to get it fixed?

theres a old guy whos got a yaris 2007 and he told me yesterday he had the same problem just before xmas and theyve fitted him a new clutch but hes noticed its still hard to get it into 2nd sometimes.

Where have you been?I can't believe you've missed all the posts regarding your gearbox problem, many of the posters have had theirs fixed, alfiejts and noddy2 just to name a couple, search GEARBOX CRUNCH for the latter's post.

yep i knew there was a problem with older cars but i thought itd been fixed in new cars thats why im asking is any other drivers with new cars having the same problem .

if its wide spread toyota should do more to fix this problem.i contacted toyota about the pedal issue and mentioned the issue i had with my gears and he said thats new to me ..i guess there hiding it.

It’s the same gear box as the 1 litre iQ which had second gear issues. Maybe a trip to Mr T is in order.

i will reece mate ..i also checked the search for noddy posting and i see its in the 2008 model too but mine is supposed to be a 2009 model..how do i check for when it was made ?or does that not matter for the fix?

ive not been on here for awhile reece mate glad to see your still on here you helped me oout lots of times when i first bought this car last year thanks again to both of you for replying so quickly my wife wants me to contact the dealership on monday il call them and post back what they say..

if ive no joy with the dealership i bought my car from can i take it too another toyota garage to have them fix it under my 3 warrenty?

Yeah I’m still here! Like a bad smell that won’t go away (to some people!) :D

If you are having second gear issues then to me it’s obvious that the problem on your car wasn’t addressed.

I don’t think the when it was built will have any affect; it’s still the same unit as all the others. The dealership will sort it out for you.

I have mid-2009 6gear box and have the same. You can get used to it, but maybe also worth mentioning I sometimes have bit of a problem engaging 4th gear, from 5th or 6th. After the engine and oil warm up, all runs beautifully.

been out this morning and the 2nd gear was a ball ache it feels like the gear sticks gonna snap off in your hand as you change into 2nd.

after awhile driving around it does get slightly easier but its still not right :(

im gonna call them tommorow to arrange to take it in if they start trying to blag me ill tell them to check this site and to check what car as even theyve posted in there review of the 2008/2009 model that its got a dodgy clutch.

I only bought my Yaris last Saturday, a 2 yr old T2. When I test drove it, it was fine, lovely in fact. However, I noticed on Sunday morning when I decided to go out for a drive, that when I first moved off it was very difficult to get it into 2nd gear. If I pushed it, it would grind. So, since then I have been going from 1st to neutral for a split second, then on into 2nd, and it seems to be working ok. But, it's not right, I shouldn't have to do that. So, I have booked mine in for its 2 year service at Toyota for next Monday, and mentioned at the same time that I was having 2nd gear problems. They said they will have a look at it, and fix it under warranty if necessary (and will also do the 2 recalls on my car too).

My T-Sport from 10-2009 with the 6 speed gearbox has the same crunch when the gearboxoil is cold when its warm its fine , it looks like the clutch doesn,t do the job wright when the oil is cold
