Toyota Lucida Engine Problems

Hi,

I recently bought a k reg imported Lucida. Upon driving it i discovered that the exhaust would give off a light blue smoke and the exhaust would smelt of burnt oil. i checked all the levels and they were fine. The smoking grew worse when i drove it mainly when i was stationary and pulling off. i again looked at the levels to see hadnt dropped and i also checked the filler cap there wasnt no white scum around the cap or filler neck. i also checked on the dipstick again no white scum. so i took it for a drive to see if the problem had cleared. After about 10 minutes i lost turbo, both turbo lights went out. i nursed it home followed by a massive white/grey/black cloud following me. Upon looking in the engine bay again no sign of leaks or obvious damages. The engine has no oil in the sump but the reserve under the hood is full and seems to be full of a red liquid if that helps though it smells like engine oil. I think maybe the turbo or seals have gone to make the smoke. Any help would be greatly appricated

  • 2 months later...

hi there,

I have a j reg Lucida, the problem has existed for 18 months or so, symptoms are white steam like smoke once its heated, coolant fluid needs filling more often, and trouble turning over. Had a cylinder head check and it came back clear, but have also been told by different mechanics that the problem is cracked head or gasket, which to repair is costly.

Does not over heat and seems to be worse in the winter. Just had new starter motor fitted, still has trouble starting and smoking, Battery goes flat so quick. In the course of this 18 months there was a period where the problem went away for a few months, then came back ?????? Any ideas guys??

Thanks Will

Sounds to me like your alternator is on the knack.

And to the OP, your turbo has failed and will need replacing... I would have guessed the smoke would be from you burning excess due to knackered/worn oil control rings/piston rings. They are costly to replace so check the turbos first. :)
