Yaris D4D Egr Vale & Ecu Software Issue

I have a 2006 D4D Yaris which has done 56000 miles.

Driving to work the other day it started to lose power and *****, the ECU light came on.

I called the RAC and they read the code (as Mr T weren't very forthcoming and wanted £59 for the privilege) they said that it was the EGR valve.

Took it to Mr T to get it fixed. I was told that I was more than likely needing to have the valve cleaned and it possibly needed to be replaced.

They now state that is has to be replaced, but to replace it they have to run a software upgrade on the ECU which will cost £70 in labour costs....

I think that this it outrageous, how on earth can they have the cheek to charge you for a compulsory upgrade for the ECU which has been running fine for the past 56,000 miles. Can anyone shed a light on what this software upgrade will do for me and if I have to have it?

I've been quoted £460 for the whole job which sounds a little bit on the steep side to me?

Anyone got any info/tips/advice?

Thanks

Chris

Find out if the EGR valve has actually changed. If it's a new part then yes you may need a ECU upgrade however I think this is unlikely as it's merely position feedback in the form of a voltage. Take it to another dealer or buy the valve off the delaer and get a independent mechanic to fit will be much cheaper!

They have kindly agreed a deal on the work so good for you Mr T!

Shows that a little bit of reasoning goes a long way.

But others should be aware of this issue with these parts!
