Hi just found this site via 4ag/3sg-UK! great chats goin on about real cars!

Iam 20 and I own a 1986 black AE86 which ive had 4 a year now absolutely love it to death! I also had a red/black AE86 when i was 17 which i ended up selling to my m8 due to the insurance was killin me! He then sold it for the same reason to a bloke who was takin it back to Ireland! Has any1 seen it? Original reg was D680 BDG(might of changed if now in Ireland) it only had 62K on the clock and was a 1 owner when i got it for a bargain price of £600! Had a MK2 Escort between these but it wasnt the same! I love to hear that 4AGE revvin 2 7500rpm whilst goin sideways! What a sensation! I also have 2 AE82's.

Hi fellas,,,,,

just reading through the post and thought this would be a good place for me to try and get some ideas (bit of a brainstorming session if you will)

i want to put some skirts, front spoiler and rear wing on my car but with her being an older modle was not sure where to start.....

have tried all the big names in modding cars but not with any luck cus they dont make owt for the more classic cars.

so here's the deal the cars on this post look the mutts nuts and i am welocming to all suggestions and ideas (websites, addresses, telephone numbers, anything you have fellas, will be greatly appreciated)

thanks in advance

this is the car at the moment.

now have 3 AE82's! Iam obsessed! HAHA! The first one is a 'B' reg in white and pretty much standard a little tatty in the usual places, sunroof panel and the rear wheel arches behind those great trims that hold in the damp and dirt! (It is my mums to be honest but I still take it out to blow out the cobwebs!)

The second one is one ive been bringing back from the dead, it is an 'E' reg also in white (best colour cuz you get body colour bumpers!) I found it in my local scrappy and the only thing wrong with it was front wings and sunroof panel were rotten bought it for a bargain of £25! (Awesome!) So ive put 2 new wings on it, sunroof panel, all w/arch trims, (all genuine parts of course, it helps that I work for TOYOTA!) had the rims reconditioned with new Yoko's on them. Had the bumpers/boot lid etc resprayed. She’s starting to look pretty again! I have just ordered koni shocks/fensport lowering springs/TRD metal h/gasket/induction kit and a few other items! She will live again!

The 3'rd one I just bought yesterday for spares another 'E' reg also in white! No engine and box though!

How expensive are the !Removed! wheelarch extensions!!!! i managed to source 2 second hand (coz 3 of mine had warped - the arches are all fine, though), but i had to get one from Toyota - £43 + VAT!!! :ffs:

the worst was the black metal scuttle trim panel that helps seal the base of the windscreen. it had rotted badly in one corner on mine, so when i got the work done round the screen, i had to buy a new one of those as well. £96 + VAT!!! i payed less for the screen! the prev owner put two new wings on mine about 4 years ago. the only place it has gone at all really, is the trailing edge of the roof, where the tailgate mountings are - there's a weld seam there, and water has got in in a couple of areas, so its just been really well sanded down, and had a load of hammerite painted on it - its not worth welding that part. never been touched underneath.

so, got any pics of 'em??

I pay £22 each for the w/arch trims but i have to get them painted due to only black ones are still avalible, and even stock of them are getting short.

Luckely all my GT's have good scuttle panels. I'll find out how much i can get one for just to ***** you off a little (HEHE) its mad how much more Toyota charge to retail customers!

I havnt got any pics of them, i'll have to take some for you.

!Removed! hell, i wasn't aware it was on any website! :D but yeah, it's B859 YYN. it's just gone in to have new discs & pads all round, and a service. ive still not got any decent pics of it. it is a really clean one tho, even if i say so myself :D

out of interest - who do the dealers buy the parts from - im guessing they still dont hold virtually obsolete parts for near 20 year old cars in stock?? Or is that top secret?

here's a few (crap) old pics of it. ive done more to it since, though - the centres of the wing mirrors are apinted now, and black trims etc have been touched in. (those wierd shadows on the 2nd pic are railings - see, i couldnt even get the whole car in one frame! lol)

The parts come from Toyota GB which are old stock thats why there arnt many left, but i think it maybe possible to get them from Japan! i may have to find out!

Your car is a seriously good example! How long you had it/where did you find it, and what kind of mileage is it on?

I cant remember what site it was on but i did copy and paste them into my photosuite, not many like that around!

i've had it just coming up to a year (but it's been off the road virtually all that time, as i can't actually drive yet - my test's on 6th may - first car). i bought it off a guy in Keighly in Yorkshire who'd bought it from the original owner (aged 81 from London) purely to sell (well i don't buy the bullcrap excuse that he didn't need it, or whatever he said), so i guess i was fleeced a bit in terms of the purchase price, but how often do you see them in that condition? he had it on a trader's insurance policy, so it's a one prev owner car.

as i said, this guy was 81, and only sold it because it didn't have power steering, and it had got too heavy for him. he has it serviced religiously, with no expense, and i mean no expense spared (in 1999, i totalled that it had had about £1200 spent on it). it's 90% toyota history with the supplying dealer - the last few stamps with a jap specialist. it's got two big files stuffed full of bills for absolutely everything (down to to official toyota wash/wax and windscreen wipers and the orginal bill of sale and price list). the milage is about average - 93k.

i've not done a great deal to it really, aside from giving it the cleaning of a lifetime, which it really needed. the screen job was the most extensive thing ive had done, along with a roof & bodykit respray. ive replaced the mid and rear exhaust sections replaced (i wanted a toyota back box, as the tail pipe's bigger, but it was just too ££) and it's just had all 4 discs and pads done, and jesus it needed it, looking at what came off it! i can't make my mind up whether to change the wheels (but keep them) or keep them on it, and refurb them, and polish the outer rim. oh, and i've just fitted a cd player. that's about all there is to know (or all that i can think of!) ill have to try and get some better pics of it

lol, well at least someone appreciates it - all i got when i showed one of my mates those pics of was "looks like a :censor: renault 5!"

the reason i knew of them is because my dad had one exactly the same, when i was about 5 (which he put on its roof!). so i don't know really, he always used to go on about how rapid they were, and how he remembered the first time he ever came across one in his XR3 (which he'd just had ported & cammed up) and it still anihalated him. maybe im sort of sentimental towards them, lol. i just remember them always being fairly rare, and he'd point one out when he saw one. he keeps showing me the pics of how his ended up, and telling me to be careful now :D i suppose he has a point!

as for insurance, it's not as bad as you might think. i realised when i started looking for a car that i wouldn't be able to insure anything in my name, unless i paid about £200 for the car and £1500 to insure it TPFT, which im just not prepared to do. so it wont be in my name, therefore it comes in at around £800 fully comp. it's another reason why i went for the AE82 - they're only group 10 compared to group 14 for the AE92, just coz they were called a GTi-16 on the logbook rather than a GT

the only thing that bugs me is it's value - if it was an AE86, it'd easily bring in about £3.5, £4k. i was thinking of taking it to JAE and leaving a notice on it for ppl to make me an offer, and just see what figures ppl come up with, then contact them when im ready to sell or whatever. ill just have to concentrate on enjoying it for a bit first!

Fair Play!

I know what you mean about the value though! My AE86 is valued at £3750 where as my AE82 is only valued at a grand!

Trust me though you will not want to get rid of it, ive driven a lot of cars due to me being in the motor trade and I can say ive only driven 2 other hot hatches which really impressed me! A 205 1.9 GTI and my mates 106 Rallye! But the problem with those is that they are unreliable! And that is because they are French!

My mum and dad have had their GT since 1989 and nothing has ever gone wrong with it apart from stuff like wheel bearings and rust! Which every car suffers with! And it hasn't had an easy life, I remember the days before I could drive and my dad would race anything that come along! Most of which were made to look very small!

No other cars apart from Hondas rev to 7700rpm every gear change!

i kind of like the fact that everyone (or nearly everyone) my age will just think it's a s**t old toyota - there's always the element of surprise. there's a lad at college with a 1.4 306, with a daft roof spolier and exhaust and a set of wheels - thinks it's a ferrari. im quite looking forward to pulling up next to that at the junction near college :P seriously though, i won't be going mad - they don't take crashes too well! ill have to borrow the pics off my dad.

im just glad im not the only one with an AE82 on here anymore! i was beginning to think i was the only one on earth! i've not even seen another on the road since i bought that, and that's a year ago!

1.4 306! Thats almost a waste of petrol racin that! haha.

He would have to have a 306 GTi to even come close!

The only thing i would advise is a good set of springs or even shockers! that transforms the handling!
