Well just had 2 x new Bridgstones fitted to the front of the car. Very nice people at Toyota garage kindly removed the run flat rings for me saving me from costly future tyre changes. Will have to get a tyre repair foam kit from Halfords just in case.

Good for you, kmr. If memory serves me well, you reside in northern Scotlandshire? Could you PM name of said nice Toyota garage and I will store for future reference. I presume that TPMS has been left working?

Big Kev

Is it Corrie motors in Inverness? I spoke to the chief mechanic about it and he said they are happy to remove them if required...

I have now had a T180 for about 300 miles. Very happy with it apart from the runflat issue.

Just picked up a screw in tyre - centre of tread - and have been told by local dealer - replace tyre at £234. Since its opposite no. is also about 50% worn, they will probably recommend replacing both? So £500 for what would otherwise be a minor puncture repair. Having read through many posts - as I understand it the wheels are standard, the tyres are standard - albeit marked with a fancy O to record the fact they are runflat with support ring. So I should simply find someone with the equipment to remove the tyres and the support rings and replace the tyres (having repaired the puncture)?

Apart from the recent reported success in Scotland, has anyone else found a dealer or tyre specialist prepared to do this?

Hugh

I rang my local tyre guy who has his own mobile fitting service. I sent him the pictures from a post on here of the guy removing the support rings. He said he would be happy to do that for me and put normal tyres on. I have since bought a spare alloy wheel and tyre from a 4x4 centre for £140 which I pop in the boot when im going long distance. Once the run flats need replaced ill get the guy above to pop normal tyres on and ill carry the spare will permanently. Standing upright in a wheel bag in the boot it doesent take up that much room at all.

Hi mate

Im in Northumberland, Alnwick area. Im sure any tyre place will do this as its a simple job. Best aviod the big chains like National Tyres and just go to a small private tyre dealer/fitting service

Yes it was corries. Found them spot on and way cheaper than Elgin.

Corrrie motors - good service dept but awful sales, really bad!

Anyone know if there is a tyre specialist in South West London (Richmond/Twickenham) that can handle run flats or cut off the support band?
