Hi all

Just purchased a Fire Extinguisher in anticipation of French trip later this year, but cant work out where to put it ?.

Its a legal requirement in most Euro countries, so does anyone know if there is a specific place / holder in the car for it ?

Many Thanks

Fix it to the floor just in front of the drivers seat, make sure you can still move the seat, have the firing pin facing in towards the centre of the car, you dont want to kick it  There is no specific holder or place for them

That bike in your profile pic looks just like mine (R100RS) ;)

Kingo

You need a lot more than an extinguisher to drive in Europe; your best bet is to buy one of the kits from Halfords or the AA, contains everything you need except headlight adjusters usually.

You need Hi Vis jackets for all passengers and unlike the rest of the kit, THEY must be in the cabin, not the boot.

If you are crossing at Calais, be careful with your speed for the first 10-15 miles, they like to target UK cars, and remember the speed limit drops when it rains.

Hi all

Thanks especially Parts King and Gentle Giant. I think I've got most of the stuff I need for France (insurance, triangle, bulbs, 2 reflective vests in car, Fire extinguisher and first aid kit. Its going to be an intersting trip, will be very aware of speed limits in France, though I'm usually a fairly slow driver anyhow.

Parts King - yes that is a R100RS 82, still in my opinion one of the best bikes ever made. Getting on for 30 years old now, but nothing modern I've tried has ever come close (its the fairing that does it). Interesting to see in todays Moto GP from Germany, Ducati are now using the same aerofoils on their fairing for downforce that BMW did 30 years ago - ho hum.

Cheers

I dont know where you are going, but I have always found the cheapest petrol near the centre of France; I start looking about the time I pass Metz.

My old Previa does much better on French petrol than the muck we are given in the UK; I get 25-27 in the UK @70mph on the motorway and 30mpg on the motorway in France @85 mph AND 1st, 2nd gear roads up through the Alps @8,500ft; on my way to/from Flaine when we go skiing.
