What To Watch Out For On 2.2 D4D

Hello.

About 6 months ago I was looking to get a 2.2D Tourer.

Well 6 months on we've decided to spend more on the wife's car and less on mine, so I'm looking at hatchbacks.

There's a 2007 t3-x with under 60k miles I've seen for around £7k and I'm quite interested but don't really know what to look out for.

I've heard the 2.2 is driven by a chain cam, does the chain ever need chaning like a belt does?

Fogged headlights is about the only other thing I've heard, but there must be more to look for?

What seem to be the common faults on here?

Also, I noticed MP3 written all over the cd player but could not find an AUX input. Does the cd player merely play mp3's that are on a CD?

Thanks

Golaboots, (ye Gods....I had a pair of them too, long before Adidas were "affordable" ),

If you are buying from a branch of Mr.T,ask specifically if the injectors have ever been done. If they have been done, are they still under any kind of warranty? I think their problems were all but solved by 2007 models, but deffo worth a check....somebody on here recently was quoted £1200.00 to replace all four !!!

I had the same car (2005) until september '09, and can thoroughly endorse its performance, quietness, ride quality, a real mile eater for longer journeys.

As you mentioned, check headlights too for condensation, and I think they had a wee "unpublicised" problem re.brake disc corrosion, causing annoying scraping in use.

Regards,

Big Kev.

Interesting.

I'm thinking of getting an Avensis 2.2 D4D (not an estate but I don't think that matters...).

Is there any way to check if a car is a 2007 onwards model, rather than an earlier one which has been registered on a later plate?

Check the registration date in the logbook

2.2 models have been known for head gasket failure too! There are some recent posts on here, do a search, it doesnt affect every car but is worth knowing

I don't think the logbook will show when the car was manufactured, just when it was first registered.

It could be an earlier car on a later reg plate.

Is there any other way to tell?

Does anyon know how common these injector and head gasket problems are? 1 in 10? 1 in 3? 1 in 100?
