Avensis X Reg (2000) Faults - Opinions Please

Hi everyone - I'll give you the edited version of my saga--

I put my X reg Avensis GS 1.8 vvti in to local garage for MOT. It failed on emissions and they charged me £328 for Catalyser/exhaust.

A couple of weeks later the Engine Management light came on - they diagnosed O2 sensor pre cat LHS - Charged £150 approx.

Next day EM light on - said it was Fuel Trims - no charge

Next day EM light on - Post cat sensor - charge £120 approx.

500 miles later ie today, EM light on.

Any comments please on the garage service?

Any suggestions as to next step?

I've paid out close to what the car was worth.

Thank you

Jim

Just adding to my saga.

the fault was diagnosed as "Random Misfire" and cleared - 150 miles later... EM on again.

Its been in all day today to "get to the bottom of this" - not heard from them.

This garage advertises 100% satisfaction guaranteed!

What do I do? Please.

Jim

Sounds like they haven't got a clue what's causing your problems. Might be worth taking it to Toyota instead.

Is it using oil?

Should have gone to Perth Touyota in first place!

They've just phoned me and given me all sorts of technical and chemical jargon - and new parts show up old parts etc.

Concluding with "this car has 3 catalysers" (surprise) and the other two now need replacing, (and I'm saying to self) not by you lot they won't!!!)

BTW Garage is HQ (Bosch) Dalgety Bay Fife.

And yes it uses oil but not to excess.
