Drain Plug

can any one help have avensis t180 put in for oil change & told by mechanic drain plug bolt on oil filter housing totaly

knackered and he could not undo so he could not replace the filter. does the drain plug need to be removed to replace filter. help

I think the oil sump plug and filter are near each other at the bottom of the engine I think but don't know if its the same as where it is on my 2.2. I believe that yes the oil would need draining before removing the oil filter, but if you are talking about the plug bolt on the oil filter housing it self then I think that it screws off so a ratchet would be needed. If its sheared then you could try and remove it from the outside of the housing it self.
