Hi everyone i'm new to the forum but thought i'd utilise your expertise. I have a 2003 reg 1794cc petrol eng Avensis T4 with 88k on the clock. I've lost power to the extent I can only get approx 45-50 mph. Is this the so called "limp mode"?. After reading the forum I would like to have look at the egr valve to see if it is blocked but I'm having trouble locating it. Could anyone please advise me as to were I might find the damn thing. On the forum all the egr valves seem to be for diesel eng's & located at the front but for the life of me I can't see it anywhere, so please help.

EGR problems tend to only affect diesels due to the crap that comes out of the exhaust clogging them up.

Is your engine management light on?

Hi mate, I don't think you will find one on a 1.8vvti engine.

Regards Pete.

Hi,

There's no EGR valve on petrol enigines.

When the engine management light comes on, one or more error codes were stored in the onboard computer.

These codes, and possibly additional data about the malfunction, can be retrieved with a co-called OBD2 scanner.

Your Toyota dealer has a far more sophisticated device, but any decent garage will have one.

Get hold of those codes, and start diagnosis from there.

If your'e uncomfortable with that, leave it to the garage.

Most will charge you for it, but at least you have something to work with.

If it's getting expensive, get a second opinion.

Good luck.
