Rebuilding My Engine

Hi I have a 2000 celica gt i bought it about 2 years ago and it has been great to me. Well it burned oil and i usually kept it up to date on checking the oil well about 2 months ago me and my g/f went to hot springs AR and i thought the oil would be fine well about 20 miles away from my house i was trying to race this truck and i got up to about 80 and it started making this awful knocking noise so i put the car in neutral and turned it off and coasted to the side of the road. I think i threw a rod or something but im not to sure?? I checked my oil and sure enough it was pretty damn dry. Well anyways about a week ago i sold my back up vehicle and i have about $1200.00 now and i have looked everywhere at first i was going to just buy a new engine but i found that the celica gt motor is not very cheap well i work at a shop and my boss suggested rebuilding the motor and i was just wondering if $1200.00 would be enough i just want to get it running again nothing fancy any tips or advice anyone could give would be greatly appreciated

eBay is your friend for second hand motors. They had a Celica 2ZZ-GE on sale recently, brand new and not too bad with the price.
