Locking Wheel Nut Removal

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help. Some ***** at the tyre shop has used an air ratchet on my front tyres when changing them and my front nearside locking wheel nut is totally burred. To make matters worse I am now hearing a squeal from that side when braking. The locking nut has a spinning collar on it so I cannot just bang on a socket over the top. Can anyone give me a suggestion how to get this locking nut off?

Try chiseling or cutting off the collar and than hammering a socket on.

The chap who does my mechanics has a set of special sockets that grab the locking wheel nuts. It destroys them, but at least they are off. I had the same problem as you with my wheels nuts, and ended up buying a new set.

Have you tried taking it back to the tyre shop in question or is the tyre flat??

The garage is about 130 miles away as I got the tyres done when I was visiting my parents in Kent. I have a squeeling brake on the wheel concerned so don't want to risk driving back.

What type of chisel and hammer did you use to break the outer collar?

Try having local garage weld a 17mm nut to it & buzz it off with an air gun.
