Celica T-Sport Clutch

Hi Guys!

I'm new here, and in the market for a T-Sport Celica.

Taken a few out for a drive and find them a really good car.

One I took out today however seemed perfect for me, but at only 40,000 miles the clutch is knackered.

The garage said they would change the clutch which is no problem. Is it normal for a celica clutch to go this early on, or is it a sign that it may have not been looked after?

The car ran ok and started fine so I don't think its been abused. Lift also came in fine.

I've always been a Ford driver so trying out a Toyota is a bit different for me, is there anything else I should look out for?

Cheers

Scott

Hi Scott.

That is very early for a Clutch to need replacing, so the previous owner may indeed have been fond of "lift". Check for corrosion on both the alloys and the inside faces of the Brake Discs, both are weak points on the Gen 7. Be aware the eight spoke T Sport Rims are very soft and prone to buckling, and it would be a good idea to have the Flange/Lift Bolts replaced as a precaution. FSH is important, and there should be two remote Keys and one valet Key with the car. A pic. of the car would help, as there have been several 190's sold as T Sports, as we can help identify anything that should/shouldn't be fitted.

HTH

I don't have a picture of the actual car available atm. But it is a 2004 Facelift T-sport exactly the same as the one in the pic.

On average how long is a clutch meant to last on one of these?

cheers!

You may get different opinions on Clutch life, as it depends so much on both the style of driving, and whether the journeys are mainly urban or motorway.

A face lift T Sport will put a big grin on your face after a Ford, especially if you fit a set of lowering Springs such as Toyota Team Europe (TTE) or Eibach Pro Kit. If the supplying Garage are carrying out a Service for you before you take delivery, try and ensure they use a 5W40 fully synthetic oil and a genuine Toyota oil Filter.

Do you have any modifications planned?
