We meet on a sad note this time...woke up this morning to a lonnnnnng key scracth down my passenger side...looks disgusting! I always assumed on a 1c0 metallic silver one wouldnt notice a scratch that bad...but dear lord you notice it pretty quick! Now im thinking if i get it repaired it may happen again...so maybe i'll touch it up with a paint stick...but really i should fill it some how...any suggestions? Only had her 4 months and my partners always said being the SR 06 version she stands out to vandals like a sore thumb lol! Obviously i aint in the mood for laughing right now...roll on 2011! Wishing you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR though and god bless!

Hi Sam,

Well thats not the kind of New Years present you need !

Was watching the videos from a car body specialist the other day showing how they can polish out an amazing amount of scratches or repaint in really deep cases for quiet reasonable money - have a look at these exanples.

My link

There are loads of 'specialists' out there, so should ask around to find the good ones in your area.

hey sam, sorry to hear about your baby.

how deep is it?

run your nail over it, does your nail catch it?

post up pics and might be able to advise you better on how to fix cheaper than going to bodyshop

oh and happy new year

depending on depth use toyota touch up paint and "fill" the scratch to a higher level than original paint. then if you have a machine polisher or can get your hands on one use a range of polishes to cut the paint down to same level as original paint.

It always makes me so angry to see people do this.

I'm sorry you have had such a massive steaming turd dropped on your year. :(

If you get it repaired, I'd get it done once, professionally. But it's your choice, I have never really lived in an area that suffer from that sort of problem regularly. I guess I am just lucky :D

HI Andycam06 & Corolla d4d...Just been out to look at the scratch (i hate looking at it coz it makes me more upset but hey)...Guys its a deep one...i think it was done with a stanley knife rather than a key/screwdriver etc coz its so deep and clean...i would say maybe a couple of mm's deep...as if its gone through to the metal...Its on the passenger side rear door...more or less a curved/straight line going across perfectly form one side of the door to the other

Honestly i don’t see the point in paying to have it professionally repaired incase it happens again...i'll probably keep her for another year and then let her go sadly if its going to keep happening.

Anyway...as suggested i've taken some pics...it’s pretty hard to show a scratch in a photo!!! Please let me know what you guys think. I've sent my other half out to look for a very thin paintbrush...im thinking of rubbing it down with 2000 grit sandpaper after wetting the scratch it as i rub along it to try and level it...NEVER tried this and its scary to think of...and then once levelled IF it does...Touching it up with my 1c0 paint stick i bought from my dealer...and then try machine polishing it up to see if it all blends in...please please let me know what you think if im thinking wrong! If i can fix this at least i'll know what to do if it happens again! Thank you all so much.

Regards...Sammy

P/s I know i'll never get it perfect...it is a sad situation.

p/ss Guys im having trouble uploading the pics...keep getting Error no file was selected for upload! So i'll try again later.

Try a company like 'Chips away'.

I used them a few years back on some damage done to my rear bumper by some idiot who couldn't park and left the scene. I asked them to sort the deep scratches on the rear bumper and touch up some other minor marks. They did it all for about £100 if i recall, and the work was excellent.

Worth getting a quote from them maybe?

In fact, i have found the post i made about it on another forum with some pics:

Does it happen often to you?

I repair my 4A-GE knowing full well that the idle could be thrown off again yet it doesn't matter as It's what I do. That said, people are different so I guess you may just want to leave it as all it does is put a hole in your wallet.

I would get it sorted and just hope it doesn't happen again. But with the way I love my cars, you can be guaranteed I'd fix it over and over again. I'm not going to let some chavvy scum ruin my motoring experience.

Hi Sam,

Well if you are doing anything diy would suggest you just run some paint down the scratch with an artists pointed type soft brush.

It does not look good until you put on the clear top coat.

Would leave it at that , trying your own rubbing down etc will only end up in tears and a bigger mess.

Probably get couple of quotes from the professionals this week, think you will find a good one.

Just run some wax down the scrach so it stops any salt corroding any bare metal in the mean time.

Getting rid if the car in a year ... ? - why ???-- the sickos may do it again but they will grow up and move on - don't let them spoil your life.

Perhaps put up a pir external light / dummy camera housing up so anyone passing activates the light - they don't like to be seen

Sorry to hear about the car.

Wouldn't get rid of it that easy, if you like it stick with it

If the scratch is that bad get someone in to do it.

THANKs Guys...just an update...took the car to a local bodyshop today...quoted me £120 to blow it...does that mean ANYTHING to anyone out there...they're a proprer professional business...but he said they dont use any paint or spray paint it etc...he said they rub the scratch down/sand it down...a little from the edge of the front passenger door even though its fine...onto the rear passenger door which has the deep scracth on...and then a little on the part of the body with the fuel cover on! Then he said they blow it all and buff it up!!! Its their own technique that pro's use he recons. I might try you tubing it later!

As daveyonthemove commented i will try chipsaway...and if that fails i'll have to take Richards.c advice re touching it up myself...Rang Hexholdings (paint mixers) who can make me a perfect match for £16.20 for 250mls so maybe that will work...who knows!

Sorry to hear this - its annoying that there are complete wastes of Oxygen out there that actually think this is funny :censor:

Hope you can have it repaired to its pre vandelism condition, personally i disagree though with the idea of getting rid of the car because

of this. Why should little scumbags dictate what kind of car you drive, have you reported it to the police. Yes i know some people will say

its a waste of time - but your taxes are paying for the police and there job is to enforce the law - which is handy since scratching a car with a stanley is againsed the law. You never know a miricle might occour and they might catch the little scumbag and just maybe the little piece of a waste of oxygen might get punished for it.

Hi Sam,

Well sounds like they can use their tools and polish / buff the scratches out as shown on that video link I posted earlier.

Not a diy job !

I suggested running paint down it more to seal the scratch than mask it, with touch up it may look more obvious.

You don't sound happy or convinced by that body shop, they should explain things clearly to you or at least give you confidence they can produce a proper finish you will be pleased with.

You have a reference /price, so go to one or two other paint shops, you are in a large city - find someone who you feel right with.

Anything diy is not gong to make it go away - so for £100 more get it done right and be happy !

I have to agree with you Rich.

No point in spending £20 now, which then means you have to spend £140 later when it goes bad, when you can spend the £120 and have it done and dusted.

I doubt they would do it again unless of course there is more to this than you are prepared to disclose to us. :)

Ok no worries. I didn't mean anything by it, I know that sometimes people lash out to others by damaging their cars.

Well I say good luck with it all, and I hope you get it professionally done as it will be the better option, especially as these people don't have you as a target for any reason.
