Tr The Best Model?

Hi all,

Is the best model to go for the TR? I am after a diesel too, which is the best ( least problems!!) engine, 2.0 or 2.2.

Not interested in built in sat nav! Got a budget of 8-9k. Was looking at crolla d4d, but dont fancy small boot and lack of cruise!

Thinking 07-08 age should be achievable with fairly low miles?

Or should I look at a mondeo ect instead??

Surely the best model to go for is the highest spec you can afford

Along with the newest and least mileage

As for buying a Mondeo.... if an example turns up that floats your boat then buy it.... after all, you are the one that will be driving it

I have just come from a MK3 Mondeo ST TDCI, and although mine seemed to have the most common issues any one car could have, there are a lot of Mondeos out there suffering with:

Injector failure (especially during winter months)

EGR failure

EGR to Intercooler hose splitting

Corroding alloys

Rear bumper hanging

Heated seats failing

Only one side of the heated windscreen working

Like i say, most of those common faults i have had in only 10 months of owning the car, and as a result i flogged it ASAP.

I expect that with your budget you would be looking to get a newer shape that has a PSA shared engine, and is more reliable, but its worth checking a few Ford forums to find common faults before buying, as their dealerships are the worst i have ever come across, and fault correction is not something they are helpful with once you have bought the car.

Try Auto trader for a guide on what your budget will get you, and good luck finding a nice car

I drive a t25 model avensis which is the TR version. easily a fantastic car with some great features. these cars have no problems at all as long as they are regularly serviced. as for engine size i think the 2.0 d4d is powerful enough with 138hp. i have driven the 2.2 also with 180hp and noticed a hugh difference bt not enough to pay the extra costs. have heard that the 150hp also pulls pretty well. as for mondeo id satay well clear, they have alot of problem areas.

if its an estate car your looking id go for something like passat,a4,octavia or even the pretty impressive s40.

your posting as diesels having less problems than petrol version does not hold water, if you go through all the forums

covering different models.diesel faults seem to to be far more common than the pertrol versions even leaving egr blockages aside.although there are many diesel owners on TOC, i understand toyota sell far more petrol versions of their cars than diesels, though the gap as with all makes is narrowing.

daveyonthemove seems to have had a bad experiance with a mondeo.and of it has put him of ford.but there are people on these forums that have the same problems with toyota and said they would never buy one again.a recent one was on the prius forum.

i myself had a mondeo ghia with a 2.2 engine was ultra reliable .its your luck how they come off the assembly line.

if your buying s/hand a lot depends how well it has been looked after by the previous owner.

Pajjy, you misread my post, I was asking which is the better diesel engine to choose, 2.0 or 2.2

But I really dont know what to go for, part of me still fancies an economical petrol ( unlike my 35 mpg 626 ) which has been very reliable.
