Rear Brakes Making "thump, Thump" Noise When Brakes Applied.

Afternoon,

Just came back from being away on business and wife says to me - Toyota's making a thump, thump noise from the rear when the brakes are applied. She then told me it's been happening for the last two weeks and getting worse - don't you just love them. Car is a 2002 Toyota Avensis Verso - 2.0l VVTI petrol.

Had a quick drive and right enough there is a thump, thump noise coming from rear of the car when the brakes are applied. Silent when no brakes applied. The hand brake

also has a lot of play before it engages. Took off the two rear wheels and had a look at the discs - quite badly corroded with only about an inch shiny in the centre of the disc. Pads are ok with some thickness left but could not be bothered to get into the shoes and see what they are like.

Assuming probably binding going on in the rear brake area but looks like it is time for a new set of pads, shoes, and discs at the rear and everything gets a good clean and also the hand brake cable gets adjusted and or replaced.

Any one else had similar problems and do others agree with my self diagnosis?

Looking on Fleabay seems to be able to get new pads, discs and shoes for around £123 and have a local garage that will do the work for £60.

Anyone seen any other good prices for brake parts? Parts King? Kingo? Any suggestions.....

Thanks in advance.

My T-180 is making the same kinda noise, but its not under braking. I suspect its a wheel bearing thats on its way out :crybaby:

I've just bought a full set of Pagid disc's and pads (all round) for £185 from Euro car parts. Very good price as I looked for ages to get a decent price.
