Squeaking N/s Rear Wheel!

Hiya...

I have a problem with my '05 'rolla T3...

i have a sqeak coming from the N/S rear wheel, i have had the brakes, both shoes and pads checked there is nothing rubbing, the bearing was checked at the same time...nothing wrong there either, it is definately a wheel as opposed to suspension sqeak as it changes pace as you speed up or slow down.

It is also temperamental as it chooses when it wants to do it but seems to be more noticable sometimes as i turn left! :help:

If any of you have any ideas i would be most appreciated to hear them as its driving me nuts!

Thanks in advance...

Hey,

Was it you who checked things out or your local garage ?

Have you had any work done or parts replaced in that area ?

Assume you cannot reproduce the squeak when turning the wheel by hand when its jacked up ?

My thoughts would be pads catching on the discs, either on the rust notch on the circumference if they are old ones, or slightly warped discs if they are new ; possibly a similar thing with the drum shoes, easier to eliminate as you can back off the adjuster to prove the point.

Would not discount suspension, it could be something like a worn shocker responding to a wheel that a bit out of balance.

Caliper slider pins seized, been plenty of posts on it.

Ok Blutto...i have seen some of the other posts on this problem and it seems to be the correct answer...but, i have been back to my garage and suggested this, they did say that when the brakes were checked the caliper pins would have to have been removed to take the discs off, when replaced they would have been greased at that time, does this make sense?

I have it booked in for tomorrow afternoon to have another look anyway.

Will let you know what happens...Thx

Ok, took it back and they can find nothing wrong, (the caliper pins are all greased and moving freely) except maybe a small area on the inside of the drum that could be snagging!...so basically it has been buffed slightly, just to take the surface back and we'll see what happens!

Might give Mr. T a shout though if it is not sorted, just to see if there is a common problem they know about!

Cheers

if the brake pads have not got the anti squeal shims in then thats the problem, common on the corolla according to autodata troubleshooter

Would that be the little metal plates at the end of the pads themselves...if so are they available to buy from Mr. T.?

I've got the same problem it's something internal to the drum brake for the hand brake.

Had a garage look at the calipers twice as I couldn't find anything wrong.

I have this exact problem right now, only drivers side. Last week I took it to the garage and they said it was the handbrake shoes, readjusted and all was well for a week or so. Its re-appeared now so I'm pretty sure the shoes were bad but also the caliper was on its way out, getting it replaced end of the week. If that doesn't sort it properly I'll go mad!

I now have this problem on the o/s rear, My 2006 D4D SR has had all of its previous servicing done by Toyota so i would imagine the rear discs have never been off, In theory the handbrake shoes should never wear out, as they only come into contact with anything when the vehicle is parked. Got a week off in April so I'm going to strip the rear shoes down completely, clean and grease the backplates etc, then service the rear calipers and pads while I'm at it...... should cure it

I have this issue with my E12. Very intermittent though ... it's a loud squeak from the rear somewhere that varies with speed of car and very embarassing if it happens as it attracts the wrong kind of attention lol. Applying the handbrake at very low speed seems to reproduce the noise which also tends to occur after the car has been washed and left overnight. Very odd and no clue what it is. My garage took a look at the last service last year but found nothing (but I have no idea exactly what they did in practice though they did say that the noise wasn't present when they took a look). I am convinced it is something to do with the handbrake/rear brakes but exactly what I have no idea. I'd like to be able to ask the garage to do something specific (look at the caliper pins maybe?). Either way, getting it sorted would be good! Only issue so far with my E12.
