Now that the nice weather is back upon is, its time to start using the bikes a bit more often.

Here are my two;

Commencal Meta 5.5 UK

And my Specialised Rockhopper which i use for taking the dog up the hills. Commencal reserved for the likes of the Nevis Range, Glentress (30 min drive which is handy) and the rest of the 7Stanes.

If I post a picture of my bike up there people might laugh :D: I did do coast to coast on it tho whic was 160 miles ouch!!!

Here's mine, picked it up today (16/04/2011);

Since petrol prices have stopped me enjoying MotoX and have forced me to sell the bike, thought I might give Downhill MTB a go, used to do a lot of Mountain Biking so hoping I pick it up relatively quickly. First thing is the mudguards are going to go along with the reflectors, and I'm swapping the saddle for one with a lower profile.

Components seem to be good but the frame may fail if I do anything silly, Square Tubing may give a stiffer frame (which is great with a long travel suspension) but land it wrong and the stress on the joins breaks them :( Got my eye on a new frame already though so it may get to be more expensive than the MotoX ever was! :D

Personally I prefer V Brakes as they give a little more feel and aren't as viscous, what do you guys prefer?

Disc brakes all the way. Far far better in wet weather (Dont lose any braking efficiency), give better/instant stopping power in all circumstances and dont damage the rim of the wheel.

I have an older bike in the garage too (I like to refer to it as 'retro') which i took for a blast a few weeks ago. It has V brakes, and having been used to disc brakes with my other two i almost killed myself going down a hill as the bike barely stopped in time!

I normally do the 7stanes (www.7stanes.gov.uk) as they are all within an hour or two from my house. Glentress and Innerleithen are the best two. Here are a couple of videos so you get the idea (not of me i hasten to add).

The pentland hills are a mere 15 mins from me too and are ideal for a quick blast, with loads of nice routes. Can also take the dog too so he gets a good run (choc lab).

I went to ride to work on Tuesday and found my bike was missing. It was locked up, so it hasn't been moved for a laugh.

Bit gutted to be honest. It wasn't anything special, and i only bought it last year but it was good enough to get me to work on. RIP Giant Boulder...

BUT, it has given me an excuse to buy something of higher spec and maybe get on some trails this summer, so i have just ordered a GT sensor 4.0 to replace it.

Its not as good as my Brothers Trek top fuel 9.7, but it will do for me:

Just need to buy a decent lock for a good price now.

Gutted to hear about the bike being swiped. My advice would be get a chain from Hein Gericke for a Motorbike, and weave it through the wheels and frame, thats what I have to do sometimes. (They aren't expensive)

I need a decent lock that doesn't weigh a ton so i can carry it in my bag when i ride somewhere.

Thank you. Went round Woburn Sands fr=or the first time, and it really impressed on the Downhill bits, I cant wait to go back now!

Its got very aggressive handling so I was a little surprised when I first set off and it picked up so much speed... one thing to remember is to remember when the forks are locked!

Aha! A bike thread...

My Meta 5.5, tweaked with bash-ring and chain device to stop the chain dropping on rocky descents; went bolt-through front and rear too.

Anthem X3, now running 1x9- it's light so no need for the granny. And rides with long straight descents aren't really my thing, so no need for the big ring either! Further tweaks since I took the picture are gratuitous addition of red anodised accessories. The only thing I've been tarty about...

Dialled Love/Hate- obviously a singlespeed. I find it a bit "pingy", but it's great fun to ride nonetheless!

The Meta's great for trips to Wales and Scotland, I just fell in love with its handling when I test-rode one.

The Love/Hate is perfect for getting you fitness up and in !Removed! weather. Having ridden Mayhem and Sleepless in 2008 when both became a right mud-fest, I'll *always* have a singlespeed to hand! :-)

The Anthem's just great full-stop. Perfect for the XC stuff on my doorstep.

Speaking of which, if anyone else is in the Farnborough/Fleet area look up the Tunnel Hill Trolls link in my sig...

Liking the Meta!

I went round a new trail at Corby at the weekend, a great place to take people who are just starting out. The Red route has some technical ascents and is largely quite tame... nice and flowy though.
