Hi everybody, Just curious if anybody could help, our Avensis d4d tspirit was fine when we went to work yesterday but when we came out of work 12 hours later we found the vsc, traction control and the malfunction indicator lamp were on. We have taken it to our mechanic who has said it is coming up with the error code c1201 but he's completely stumped as to what to do lol (really fills us with confidence!) We can't afford to go to the Toyota Dealership and wondered if anybody had any ideas what this is and how to fix it? Many thanks :help:

Hi, c1201 relates to a communication stop between ECU's , it is possible that your mechanic did not look at the right system and probably assumed that as the vsc lights etc were illuminated then that is the system that is faulty. It is most likely that the fault is within the engine system but with vehicles equipped with vsc all systems are linked so a fault with one will log a code in all others ( normally a communication stop code as you have)

I would advise getting the other systems checked out.

Have you all read this post? It may have the solution to your problems: -

All the cars involved are diesel.

Get the codes too.

C1201 is a secondary code there will be one or more other Primary codes that are causing C1201 without these additional codes we have no way of knowing what the issue is.

Again both are secondary codes I suggest the Diagnostic machine being used is not fully compatible with your car and is not reading all the codes codes stored.

So what is the code c1201 means?

It means a loss of communication between the engine ECU and some other control system on the car. You should get another fault code along with C1201 - it is the other fault code which will help guide you to the problem.

Indicates fault with catalyst or oxygen sensors.

I had the same fault. It's just a warning to say there is a problem. Ended up being the dpf system not being able to burn. It was over fueling and not getting the exhaust temp up.

Hi, I have the same problem on my 2010 Avensis Diesel. I had the air bag light which was on the dash until i found that I had a faulty slip ring squib.

I changed the squib ring and it solved the problem , air bag light is now off, but now I have the  parking brake system or vsc system.or fault code c1201.

This is because I took the steering wheel off? Any ideas or help, much appreciated.

Did you fix this? Also do you mind telling me what the squib part number is, I´ve got a 2AD-FTV 2012(2.2  d4d) , horn doesn't work, but I can´t find the part number (nor the correct name, to find it)

Thanks in advance!, any help appreciated.
