Welcome to TOC.

I'm glad round by me that Diesel is only 1p more than Petrol now. But how long for? Have you checked to see if you've got a fuel leak anywhere? Take look underneath your tank. But I'd guess that you'd smell that if you had? But worth a look see

Air Filter Bowfin'....?

Big Kev

Hi Big Kev

Taken air filter on top of the engine out, not that dirty. It has done something as not drastically going down, is this what you meant by "Bowfin"?

Regards Spiderdad

Yes it was drastically going down (2miles for every one driven),then before reading your reply yesterday I had removed the filter from top part of the engine and went out for a 20 mile round trip. After 10 miles I stopped off to unload my car and at this point 0nly 10 miles had gone from my dash board petrol range display so I thought taking the filter out and blowing it may of had some affect. However my reader then jumped up from reading 63 miles worth of petrol left in the tank to 72 miles worth while driving. It seems to vary every time i go out in the car if my petrol is going quickly or at the normal rate!!!!

Could it be some sort of computer glitch or do they still use a balist system in your petrol tank as it seems the range disply matches whats left on the dashboard display. :(

When were the spark plugs last changed? Have you cleaned the MAF/changed air fuel filter? Sorry if this has been covered in earlier replys. Go through the basic stuff befor you look at other things

Spider....am I reading this correct....are you doing this calculation and getting in a state over the TRIP COMPUTER READOUT FIGURES, and actually using it "dynamically", to coin a phrase I hope member shcm is proud of me for....?

If so, desist immediately, and go get a bank loan  and fill your tank and do the mileage check on the brim tae brim method....please come back and share your good news, that your OBC trip reader is a lot of mince....

Big Kev

BTW....would not recommend you drive without air filter in place....not a good idea.

The 'Range' reading on my 06 Avensis is sometimes all over the place as well. I just ignore the flipping thing now. Last time I wanted to put in just enough fuel to get me home it jumped up to much higher than I thought it would and then tumbled away at roughly 2 miles of range consumed for every mile travelled. I'm busy pooping it thinking I'm going to run out of fuel on the motorway when it settled down and started giving more accurate readings. Wierdness!

I now estimate how much fuel to put in based on my usual mpg and only use the 'Range' reading as a very rough guide. Less than 50 miles = top up real soon. Disappointing though, it would be nice if it worked properly.
