Really Rusty Rear Suspension Beam

I was changing my rear brakes over the weekend and noticed how rusty the rear suspension beam is on my Avensis! The car's only 7 years old.

What's the best way to solve this? Wirebrush and hammerite? Has anyone else got a similar problem?

Holey Moley - that's bad for a 7 year old car. My son has a 1994 (17 years) MkI Clio in much better nick.

A good wire brush some paint and then a spray over with Waxoyl may arrest the problem.:)

In case of many cars the suspension items are not rust protected. They come from the factory line covered in a simple black paint which does not protect in any way the specific item. That is why the suspension beam looks so rusty.
